Hurrying down the porch steps, he cut straight across the sweeping front lawn, not wasting time with the pathway. It took only a few minutes for his long legs to carry him out to the front gates.

He took a moment to compose himself right at the end of the driveway. It was so humid, even that short walk had made his T-shirt stick to his skin, and he knocked a new batch of mud off his shoes. Schooling his expression into the perfect Dom face that made true submissives fall to their knees, he passed through the stone pillars and faced the blue Ford.

Olivia was still hunched over her steering wheel, but at least her shoulders had stopped that far-too-rapid rise and fall. That was a good sign. As he got closer to the car, he could hear her muttering to herself through the cracked windows. It took until he was right next to her door to understand the low words.

“...fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Come on, get your shit together. You can do this, you can do this, you can fuckingdothis. He picked you. You told him everything and he still picked you.So calm the fuck down.Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fu—”

Pulling her car door open, Aiden interrupted the flow of obscenities: “I don’t allow that kind of language from my subs.”

Olivia’s squeak of surprise was downright inhuman. Her head shot up, gaze locking onto his, while her mouth moved like it was trying to find words. No more sound came out.

It took every bit of self-control he had not to smile. Christ, she was adorable. “What seems to be the problem, Olivia?” he asked, voice firm.

Her mouth opened and closed a few more times, like an extremely cute and distraught fish, before she finally managed to gasp out, “Aiden.”

Aiden’s cock hardened at the sound of his name in her breathy voice. And that’s what she sounded like after only a few stern words. He could only imagine how goddamn sexy she would be in the throes of an actual scene.

If he had his druthers, she’d be bent over the seat with his cock filling her pussy in ten seconds flat. But this week was supposed to be about her—herneeds. Pushing aside his still-rising lust for now, he hardened his voice even more and said, “Is that an appropriate way to address your Dom?”

Olivia clapped a hand over her mouth, her eyes going wide. “Oh, I’m sorry. I mean no, Sir, it isn’t.”

He gave her the tiniest nod of approval. “Better. But I’m afraid we’re off to a bit of a rocky start.” Color immediately flooded her cheeks, but she didn’t look away from him. Combined with the little pep talk he’d overheard, he couldn’t help admiring her courage. “In addition to what we’ve already discussed, I’ve been waiting for you in the Manor for more than twenty minutes. I don’t like to be kept waiting, Olivia.”

She blinked back tears. “I’m sorry, Sir. I tried to be on time.”

“So I noticed.” He gave the security camera on the front gates a pointed look, and she followed his gaze, making another little squeaking sound when she saw it pointing right at her. “You actually would’ve been early if you hadn’t stopped out here. What happened?”

Olivia closed her eyes, and a single tear made its way down her cheek. Christ, her skin looked soft. Needing to touch her, Aiden reached out and wiped the tear away with his thumb. Her lips parted in the softest of sighs at the contact. Straightening her shoulders, she made herself look at him again. “I’m scared, Sir.”

He kept his face impassive. “Of?”

“Of not knowing what I’m supposed to do. Of making a mistake. Of...” She took a deep, steadying breath, and forced out in a smaller voice, “Of not being able to please you, Sir.”

Nothing surprising there. Her explanation echoed what he’d read in her application. “Let me explain something to you,” Aiden said, softening his voice the tiniest bit. “We get hundreds of applications. Most of them are experienced subs looking for something new. Something exciting and luxurious to brag to all their friends at the local club about.”

“I know, Sir,” she said, voice shaking. “That’s why I’m so—”

“Another strike, Olivia. Don’t interrupt me when I’m speaking.”

Her eyes widened again, but she didn’t say a word.

“Good girl. Now, where was I? The point I’m trying to make is if I wanted a sub with tons of experience, who knew exactly what she was doing, I would’ve picked one. I’m hardly lacking in options.”

For the first time, she smiled. He would’ve missed it if he hadn’t been carefully studying her face; the corners of her mouth flicked up for only a second. Aiden didn’t know why that made his chest ache so fiercely. He only knew he wanted to make her smile again.

“You said in your application you want to be fixed. But fixing implies something is broken, and nothing I’ve seen or heard so far makes me believe that’s true. Inexperience and damage are two very different things.”

She opened her mouth, but then seemed to remember his earlier admonition and closed it again. Absolutely fucking perfect. Olivia appeared to be a fast learner, like all true submissives. They wanted nothing more than to please their Dominant at any cost...unlike the bratty pain sluts who disobeyed any time they wanted a punishment. He’d dealt with enough of those to last him a lifetime.

The next week was going to be fucking fantastic.

“You may speak.”

“I just...” Her brows furrowed, and she chewed on her bottom lip for a moment. “You read my whole application, Sir?”

He nodded. “Of course.” At least a hundred damn times.

“So you know I’m not saying I’m broken cause I haven’t—cause I’m too scared to—”
