“Jesus. Now you’re silent? Twice in one day?”

“I-I don’t know what to . . . What are you saying?”

“I’m asking you to take a look at the new plans that I had Jenny help me with.”

“Jenny? Wait, what?”

“I called her . . . I don’t know . . . a week or so ago. Had her draft up some rough ideas. I sent them to Mosby who worked like a dog to redraft and finalize them. Then Matthew and I went and pitched it to our dad.”

“You did?”

“Yes. After we went up north and you said what you did about Jax’s place . . . Well, I realized you were one hundred and ten percent correct. So, I had everything redone. Everyone working like madmen trying to perfect the image I had. That you had. And, well, it’s pretty fucking amazing.”

The excitement he felt was tangible. I could feel it coursing through him.

“I can’t believe you did all that,” I said.

“Well, when I realized how right you were, I had to take a chance. I hope I didn’t overstep myself.”

“You did all of that for me?”

“No.”

My breath hitched. “Oh. I—”

“I did it forus.”

My breath hitched again. “Us?”

“Take me back, Siena. Be my partner. In business. In life. In love.”

My hand came to my mouth. “Love? Oh my god.”

“I love you, Siena Giuliana Moretti.”

He sat for a moment waiting for me to respond. “Fuck, Siena. Please. I’ll do anything to make this right between us. Just say you want to be together and build a life with me.”

I’d never seen Michael like this. So unsure. So on edge. I was so used to his cocky smile, his obnoxious confidence. This was a much welcome change. I should really sit here and enjoy this for a moment. I giggled at my own thoughts. I smiled, leaned forward. He leaned toward me, his mouth beckoning me, begging me for a kiss. I leaned even closer, less than an inch away from his lips. “Let me see these plans of yours, first,” I teased.

He grabbed me, pulled me into his lap, and kissed me.

He broke away, just for a second. Just long enough to say, “I’ll show them to you when I’m good and ready, partner. Right now, I’ve got something else I’d like you to see.”

I laughed, squirming in his hold. “I love you, Michael.”

His lips were on mine again—a delicious, silent agreement to start new.

To start fresh.

To startus.
