I knew she wasn’t joking, but seriously? Her and my dad. I couldn’t seem to escape the wrath from either of them when it came to this place.

She laughed and rolled her eyes. “I know you can’t pull out now. But wouldn’t it be nice?”

“Nice for you, maybe. Not so nice for me.” I wish it were that easy. Then, I wouldn’t have to be fighting with two people on opposite ends of the continent about this goddamned property.

“Why’s that?”

“You don’t know my father. I hate . . . Ah, never mind.” I didn’t want to get into things regarding my father with her. That was another touchy subject that seemed best to avoid—especially considering my recent conversation with him. Maybe someday we could discuss him. But not today. I didn’t have the energy to talk about Allan Blaire.

“I know enough about him,” she sighed, looking up into the sky.

“Yeah. Well, let’s leave that beast alone. It’s such a nice morning. No need to spoil things.”

“Right. Anyway, back to those plans of yours,” she said, walking again.

“I was thinking we finish up here and—”

“Cut the crap, Michael. I meant the hotel. Not coffee and scones with you.”

“Mmm, scones.” I laughed at her sigh of exasperation. “Okay, okay.” I held up my hands in defeat. She wasn’t going to give up. She was persistent as hell, and instead of brushing her off, I figured it might help to give her a glimpse. “Overall picture? Luxury rooms and amenities. Very posh. Very upscale.”

“And you’re probably going to install a string of tennis courts.”

“Maybe.”

“And a huge pool.”

“Naturally.”

She stopped us again. “Probably multiple pools. And hot tubs.”

I laughed. “Have you already seen the plans? I haven’t even seen them yet. How is it you seem to know more about them than I do?” I teased. She was pretty spot on. I’d give her that.

She rolled her eyes and threw her hands up. “Typical. Just typical.” Her mood was shifting.Shit.

“Typical ofmosthotels, Siena.”

“No.” She narrowed her eyes at me. “Typical of E Hotels. Come in, take over, and bulldoze everything with only one goal in mind.”

“And what’s that?” I couldn’t take my eyes off her. Even if she was spitting mad at me.

“Just selfishly build whatever you want because that’s what you want, never once considering other people or the community you’re building in. And you always get your way.” She huffed, crossing her arms across her beautiful chest.

“Hey, money talks, honey. And why are you blaming me for my father’s ideas?”

“Because you’re the one implementing them.”

“That’s my job. I don’t design the buildings. I just execute the plans.” I could feel my blood pressure rising. “And I do a damn good job of it,” I added. Why did our conversations always come back to this?

“Even if it’s at the expense of the people who live and work here?” she spat back.

I was getting frustrated with her—her and her fucking opinions. Something about her pulled me to her. And that mouth. Goddamn, that mouth. Never failed that at some point that mouth was going to spit fire and fury at me. I couldn’t help it. Something about her was magnetic, and I was like a moth to a flame.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“Your fancy hotel with your fancy amenities. Pools, health spas, tennis courts, beauty salons.” Her hands were flying as she grew more and more intense. “A fancy bar where all your rich guests will go to drink and party.”

I grabbed her hands and held them. “Is that what you’re worried about?”
