“Oh. I see. All righty then.”

“Siena’s leaving on Monday,” Grams said, jumping in. Why’d she tell him that?

“Grams, Michael doesn’t need a play-by-play.”

“Actually, this is really quite convenient.”

My interest was piqued. “How so?”

“Potential business opportunity. Something you might be interested in.”

I shook my head with a snort. “Doubt it.”

“Don’t be a brat, Siena,” Michael said. “I actually forgot all about it. You know, wrapped up in these plans.” He tapped the papers still spread across the table. “When I heard San Francisco, I thought that’s what you were talking about and realized I still hadn’t discussed it with you guys. So how would you even know?”

I rolled my eyes in jest. “Get to the point already.”

“Siena,” Grams admonished me.

The corners of my mouth turned up. “What? I mean, jeez, what’s with this long-winded dissertation?” I baited, loving the sound of his voice but antagonizing him just for fun.

“Anyway,” Michael said and cleared his throat. “San Francisco.”

“What about it?”

“Well, it kind of involves all of you.” He took his seat. “I was talking to a friend of mine”—he started rolling the papers back up—“in Carmel.”

“What are you doing?”

“New item of business. We don’t need these anymore.”

“Wait.” I grabbed my phone from the counter. “Let me take some pictures.”

“I thought youhatedthem,” he mocked me.

“I do. But I want to show Jenny.”

“Why?”

“She might have some ideas on how to fix this big ole mess.”

“Siena. You need to be more open-minded.”

“Agree to disagree.” I took a picture of the first page and instructed him to flip through as I took a few more. “Let’s get an unbiased opinion.”

“Unbiased? She’s your best friend. Of course, she’s going to side with you.”

“She will.” I laughed. “But she’ll also take these into consideration and be objective. She’s got an eye for design.”

He shook his head. “Whatever you say.”

“Who knows, maybe she’ll be able to change my mind.” I smiled sweetly.

“Your heels are already dug in. I think”—Michael felt his back—“I can still feel them,” he remarked, playfully.

“I’m just going to ask her to take a look. She might have some ideas you’ll like.”

“Sure, whatever.” He waved his hands in defeat. “You done?”
