“You’re distracting me,” she whispered.

“Am I?” I asked softly.

“Yes.”

“Good,” I said smugly and sat back into my seat.

“Whatever, tease.”

“I never said any different, did I?”

She shook her head. “Leave me be. I need to concentrate on my interviews and what I plan to say and cook, in case they ask for a demonstration.”

That perked me right up. “You want to role play?”

She snorted and covered her mouth.

“’Cause I’m really good. And you know, practice makes perfect.” I wiggled my brows.

She smacked me on the chest, a smile plastered on her face. “Stop.”

I laughed and grabbed her in a quick kiss.

Shocked surprise crossed her face as the flecks of gold in her eyes shimmered. She touched her lips, dumbfounded as I eased back.

I was surprised myself and surprised at how easy it was for me to just kiss her out of the blue. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to . . .” I didn’t finish the sentence. This woman got me so tangled up sometimes that I couldn’t think straight.

“It’s okay.” She smiled shyly at me. This interaction was weird, even for us.

I wasn’t sure why I was even apologizing, only that I did so because this certainly wasn’t a “no strings attached” kind of reaction.Fuck me. Was Mosby right? Relationship?I tried to play it cool, keep the thoughts whizzing through my mind at bay. Remember what Siena had just said about keeping things light. “I was serious. Even though I wouldn’t mind the alternative.” I winked at her, grinning from ear to ear. “But really, I’d be more than happy to go over questions or strategies for your interview if you want. And I’m certainly down to be your guinea pig on some good food.”

“I think I’m okay. I just need to keep my head in the game and stay focused.”

“Absolutely. Focus on business for now.” I smirked, taking her hand and rubbing tiny circles over her knuckles. I licked my lips. “Besides, there will be plenty of time forpleasurelater.”

She playfully shoved me. “Shut up and buckle your damn seatbelt.”

I followed her instructions with a smile. “Satisfied?”

“Not yet. But there’s still tonight.”

Holy shit, woman.Light? Casual? Jesus Christ, she knew exactly how to get me going. “Being this close to you with nowhere to escape”—I looked at the other passengers—“really does put a damper on things.” I chuckled at her groan of annoyance. I knew by her smile that she was more frustrated with our current situation, being surrounded by people, than she was with my lusty playfulness and innuendoes.

“Keep it in your pants, Romeo.”

“Tsk-tsk. No strings attached, right?” I winked.

She winked back. “Exactly. I’m glad we see eye to eye on at least one thing.”

She giggled as I readjusted myself, sat back in my seat, and closed my eyes.

Perfect timing. The flight crew was just starting their pre-flight safety briefings and preparations.

Siena

Iwas floating on acloud.

I was back in San Francisco.
