He frowned and glanced the way of the door like he’d never thought about it. Tess grabbed one of his tee-shirts to put it on. After scooping her hair out, she closed the closet and pointed at the stove.

“You want some food?”

“Later,” he said and patted his thigh. “Take a seat.”

“We just had sex,” she said, retrieving another beer from the fridge. If Danny ever met a genie, his first wish would be for an endless supply. Of that she was sure. She opened the bottle and went to him. “We can’t do it every minute.”

“I’ve been working all day,” he said, grabbing her wrist to tug her down onto his lap.

She laughed, relaxing against the high arm of the chair. Danny took the beer and gulped some down. “I’ve been working too and I’m working tonight.”

“Okay,” he said, putting the beer on the shelf behind the chairs. “Then you go first.”

His hand snaked under her tee-shirt to slither up and over her breast.

“Danny,” she said, scooping both hands around his jaw to make him look at her. “You know this stuff with my mom, trying to figure out her message, you know it’s important to me, right?”

He nodded, his head heavy in her grasp, and his hand still playing with her breast. “Sure. Important. Got it.”

Ducking forward, he freed his head from her hands and pushed her head aside to kiss her neck.

Either he didn’t understand, or he didn’t care. A smile warmed her lips. Danny was just Danny. Nothing deep there. No complex man with far-reaching ambitions. All he wanted was his trailer, his beer, and sex while she was there to give it up.

“I have to shower,” she said, fighting her urge to relax into the promise of what he offered: instant carnal gratification.

Wriggling out of his hold, Tess found her feet in sync with his disappointed groan.

“What’s the point of having a gal roommate if I can’t get laid?”

Shaking her head, Tess didn’t subdue her smile as she addressed him over her shoulder. “You just did get laid… I’ll come back after my shift and we’ll do it again… You should probably buy more condoms.”

Opening the shower door, she turned on the water and shirked the tee-shirt.

“Nah, I’ll just wait here, smoke some weed, play my guitar… Earl’s cable’s out.”

“Earl?”

“Buckhorn,” he said. “Guy who owns the joint.”

In the shower, there was no shampoo or conditioner or separate soap, only some white bottle with green writing that claimed the contents were three in one. Typical Danny to go for the easiest option. Wearing a smile, she shampooed her hair and washed her body.

When Tess turned off the water and opened the door, Danny was standing there holding a towel, waiting for her. She hadn’t expected to see him right there, but took the towel to dry her face. Even before he opened his mouth, she knew what he wanted.

“No,” Tess said. “I can’t go to work with you all over me.”

“You just used my soap.”

Good point. So, no matter what, she was doomed to carry him with her for the rest of the night, which would drive her crazy.

“If you’re that bored, come to the club, have a drink.”

“Bad idea,” he said, shaking his head.

Tess went to retrieve her clothes. Leaving the panties, she put everything else on. “Why? Just sit there at the bar and I’ll ply you with alcohol.”

“Yeah,” he said, slipping his hands into his pockets as he slumped back to lean on the closet. “But I’m in a gettin’ busy kinda mood. Places like that are prime pickings with so many liquored up women.”

“What a gentleman,” she said, using the towel to dry her hair as best she could. “Is my bag still in the bedroom?”
