“Why not?” she asked, recognizing the code name as one Harry used for Daire.

“Because his brother is the assassin,” Lowe said.

“And Ares was in the dark about Zulu,” Zip added.

Operation Zulu, also known as, the plot to assassinate Zeus.

Daire’s brother. Tess looked from one male to the next. She’d heard Harry and Daire talking about a brother. If these men were doing the same, he couldn’t be present. Whoever he was, whatever he was, he was in the wind or dead.

“That’s what you’re all waiting for,” Tess stated, clarity washing over her. “Orders.”

“We’re not complete enough to make a move.”

“Harry will have more success tracing and recruiting his people,” Garrick said. “He’s done it before, he can do it again.”

“Why not go to him?” she asked. “You said you were waiting here for him. You must have known he was in town.”

“Not until he arrived. We’ve been waiting, monitoring the hotel’s security, hoping he’d come for Three. We didn’t expect him to show up with Ares and Pandora.”

“Changed things,” Boze said. “Getting close to Harry was always gonna be tough.”

“Getting close to them together is impossible,” Milo said. “Even if we got one of them alone—”

“The other would take us out before we could explain.”

“What?” Tess asked. “That you’re holed up here hoping someone takes care of the problem for you?”

From the shock and confusion reverberating around the room, she guessed they hadn’t expected her to be so blunt.

“We came and got you, didn’t we?” Albany said.

“For what?” she asked, focusing on Garrick. “What do you want from me?”

“To bring them here.”

“If this is Three’s house and they want to talk to him, won’t they come anyway?”

“They played at his casino last night,” Garrick said. “Cheated at his casino to get his attention.”

“Problem for them?” Albany said. “Three’s in Panama… running from Z. Everyone’s running from him.”

Three being in another country was a problem. No chance of a rendezvous. And, as far as she knew, her father and Daire didn’t know this splinter Olympus faction was on their feet ready to act.

“So you plan to use me,” she said. “To dangle me in front of them to bring them in.”

“No,” Garrick said as a couple of others shook their heads. “If we’re confrontational, they’ll go on the offensive.”

“Even with five of us,” Lowe said, indicating himself and the others. “We’d never take on Hades and Ares and win… It’s too big a risk.”

“We can’t afford to lose anyone else,” Albany said.

Noticing the way they shared glances, then fixated on the floor, Tess witnessed their grief.

“How many have you lost?”

“Two confirmed,” Garrick said. “Most are still unaccounted for.”

“We need Hades,” Lowe said. “His discipline will get us on track. He’ll get us to where we have to be.”
