I turn to see what she’s looking at and see a car flying into a parking spot, barely parking in the lines before the doors fly open. I’m barely on my feet when Bianca spots me and she runs at me. I nearly collapse in her arms and she sobs quietly into my neck as she hugs me.

“Thank you,” I tell Imogen before I leave and she smiles sadly at me. “Do you need anything?”

She shakes her head but her smile seems forced. “I’ll be okay. Be safe, Kate.”

“You too.”

“Come on,” Colt says, shifting uncomfortably and eyeing the parking lot. “Let’s get going.”

Bianca sits in the back seat with me and I’m grateful she lets me lay my head in her lap. I’m exhausted and drained. She holds my hand, crying silently and I hear her mutter a quiet apology as I drift off. I don’t even have the energy to tell her not to apologize. I just latch on to the comfort of being safe at the moment and hope that when I wake, I’ll see my guys.

CHAPTER FORTY FOUR

“Be careful moving her! We don’t know if she is hurt!”

I groan, my head throbbing, as voices explode all around me. I sit up too fast, making my vision go spotty, and feel like I might throw up.

“Easy, baby cakes, I’ve got you.”

My eyes focus on Asher’s eyes in front of me and I lean into him as a sob escapes my throat.

“I’ve got you, Kate. Shhhh. I’ve got you.”

I wipe at my face as I pull away and realize there is a full room of people staring at us. Bianca is sitting beside me, Eli is kneeling at my feet next to the couch I’m on, Ax is standing behind him, and along the wall I see Red, Lucky, Jagger, Jayla, Roy, Colt and Axel Senior.

My eyes flash to Eli and without warning he has my face in his hands and kisses my lips gently. “You’re okay now, Kate,” he whispers softly.

Everyone seems to take a turn hugging me gently or letting me know they are glad I’m okay. Colt and the other guys disappear from the room and head towards the kitchen as Jayla heads downstairs to the basement to check on her daughter. Apparently it’s been a full house for the couple of days I’ve been gone.

“I am going to have a friend I know come check on you. He was an army medic—“ Ax starts and I shake my head quickly before wincing at the pain.

“N-no doctors. Please. I’m okay.”

“The fuck you are,” Ax hisses at me.

“P-please. Just hug me and shut up for once.”

He glares at me as he stomps over. Eli moves aside as Ax kneels in front of me. His eyes roam my face, taking in my injuries and hesitating as though I’m made of glass.

He kisses my forehead softly and leans in close so his piercing black eyes are all I can see.

“I’m going to hunt every one of these fuckers down and kill them all.”

“I love you too, Ax.”

He sighs and shakes his head as he pushes Asher aside to sit next to me. I spend the next hour filling them in on what happened after Scott forced everyone to the basement. About Edgar fighting for the gun and getting shot, about trying my hardest to get out of Scott’s car and how that’s where most of my cuts and bruises are from, to him knocking me out with the butt of the gun and waking up at the abandoned motel.

Bianca cries silently and is pale as a ghost as she has to excuse herself from the room. I can’t imagine her guilt and hurt with everything but I can tell from the looks on the guys faces they have to fill me in on stuff as well so I will have to check on her later.

“What happened here while I was gone?”

Eli sighs and Ax looks like he may lash out so I take his hand quietly and he gives it a squeeze.

“We found Thorne,” Asher says finally and the bile in my stomach starts to make its way up my throat.

“Is he… is he here?”

Eli snorts. “He’s dead.”
