“It’ll kill her when she finds out we kept it all from her,” I sigh.

“Let her remember on her own. Get her a good doctor,” Edgar pleads. “But this idea that she is the enemy…” he hisses and his fists clench.

“I get it,” I snap at him. “I fucked up. Multiple times. I’ll fix it.”

“It’s not just on you to fix it anymore!” Eli snaps, and I glare at him.

“It’s my mess to handle—”

“I’m not leaving it all up to you. I'm involved now.”

“And me,” Asher adds.

I sigh and shake my head. They don’t understand. “You aren’t the ones that—”

“Don’t even pull that card,” Eli snaps. “Out of all the things we’ve been hiding from her, that's hardly going to be the one that breaks her. And that doesn’t mean shit considering you don’t even care about her.”

This time it’s Eli who gets punched in the jaw. My fist comes back with his blood on the knuckles. “Want to say that again to my fucking face,” I threaten him.

“I like her,” he snaps and spits blood into the sink. “And I’m not fucking going anywhere.”

With a grin, he just licks the blood from his lip.

“Fuck both of you. I like her, too.” Asher growls.

Edgar sighs and shakes his head. “How about one of you three start acting like it. Worry about her instead of yourselves for once.”

He disappears from the room, leaving the three of us staring each other down.

How the fuck did this happen?

“So, the three of us…” Asher chuckles as he grabs a beer. “All want the same girl?”

“She’s mine,” I remind them as Asher hands a drink to me. “Even if she doesn’t fucking know it and never forgives me, she’s mine and I’ll make sure no one fucking hurts her again. Least of all her father or that piece of shit doctor.”

“It’s going to destroy her,” Eli says with a sigh. “When she finds out he did it.”

“I’m not letting him hurt her again,” I remind Eli. “He’s a sorry excuse for a fucking father.”

“Well,” Asher says, sighing. “She confirmed one thing. Her dad knew she was in the closet.”

Eli slams his fist on the table.

“Didn’t even hesitate torching the place,” he yells.

“I want his head,” I tell them both. “Get him.”

CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

KATE

I can’t breathe. All I hear is coughing and crying. My fingers ache and blood is covering the closet door.

“Katie,” I hear my mom's muffled voice. “Someone get Katie.”

I bang on the door, coughing as smoke comes in the bottom of the door.

“Mom! Mom!”
