Drake scowled.

“Yes, he’s serious, Drake,” Ajax said. “If I ever make you unhappy, talk to me. We can always work things out, but I’m not a mind reader, so skulking around when you’re pissed at me, and I have no idea why, won’t help.”

“Can I see your wolf?” Now that had Drake excited. “Will your wolf be able to understand me and know who I am?”

Ajax looked toward the window by the front entrance. “I’m not going to show you where others might see me.”

“I’ll shift for him,” Kenji volunteered.

Ajax growled. “Not if you want to keep your nuts.” He looked at Drake. “We tend to get naked before we shift.”

Drake’s eyes bulged. He’d love to see Ajax in all his naked glory, and although Kenji was gorgeous, he didn’t appeal to Drake the way Ajax did. “I see.”

“I’m heading to my rental,” Kenji said. “Are you two okay with me, or do I need to stick around for some more intervention?”

Drake snickered. “The only intervention needed around here is between you and that cake.”

Ajax chuckled.

“It was good,” Kenji defended. “But I’ll have to run off all the calories later. Thank goodness you have woods around here.”

“In your wolf form?” Drake asked.

“Yep.” Kenji patted his lean stomach.

“He doesn’t like one-word answers,” Ajax said.

“Yep, in my wolf form.” Kenji winked. “You’re welcome to join me.”

“You’re close to getting your throat ripped out,” Ajax warned. “I just found my mate, which makes me pretty fucking lethal right now.”

Kenji held up his hands, palms out. “Peace out.”

Drake laughed, but his body still reacted to the sight of Ajax’s muscles rippling as he flexed. He quickly averted his gaze before Ajax saw him staring and glanced back at Kenji.

“See ya later.”

“It was a pleasure meeting you,” Kenji said before he unlocked the door and walked out.

As soon as he was gone, the laughter and teasing stopped. For the first time since walking into the cafe, Drake felt heat radiating from Ajax’s gaze as it ran up and down his body. The intensity in his eyes was so strong Drake could feel it in his soul.

Drake swallowed hard. Ajax’s gaze was entrancing. “So...”

“So…” Ajax said, a cocked eyebrow raising above his left eye. “You wanted to see my wolf?”

Drake nodded. “Yes.” He licked his lips, tasting the remnants of his smoothie.

“You sure?” Ajax asked.

Drake’s heart skipped. He could only imagine. “I’m sure.”

Ajax pushed away from the counter abruptly and strode around it. He walked up to Drake and grabbed his hand. “Let’s go somewhere more private.”

Ajax locked the door again then took Drake to the patio.

“I can still see past the shop and onto the street,” Drake pointed out.

Ajax lowered cloth blinds, which Drake hadn’t seen. With the wooden privacy fence surrounding them and the windows blocked, Ajax started to remove his clothes.
