“Drake?”

“Huh?” Elijah and Mason were staring at him. “Oh.” He told them what happened from the time Elijah left to when Drake walked out.

“You tried to knee him in the balls for kissing you?” Mason gave a low whistle.

“Did you tell him who you were on the phone with?” Elijah asked, clearly ignoring Mason.

“I shouldn’t have to,” Drake argued.

“This is completely different,” Mason said. Then he looked at Elijah. “You shouldn’t have said anything to Drake. It wasn’t your place.”

“No, Drake’s right.” Elijah squeezed Drake’s elbow, once again ignoring Mason. “Just because Ajax didn’t know doesn’t give him the right to act like a jerk.”

“This is completely different,” Mason repeated.

“How?” Drake and Elijah asked at the same time. Damn, they’d been hanging out too long if they could do that.

“Ajax is your mate,” Mason gave the needless reminder. “He’s a wolf, Drake. Possessive, aggressive, and he’ll kill anyone who even thinks about touching you.”

“Wait.” Elijah frowned. “You just described yourself.”

Mason shrugged. “I’m not going to apologize for how I feel about you, Elijah.”

Elijah turned to Drake. “Where was this backbone when you were kicking Brody out?”

That was a damn good question. “Don’t turn this on me.”

“No one is turning anything on you,” Elijah said. “No matter what happens, even if you’re being the unreasonable one, I’ll always have your back.”

“Did you just say I was wrong?” Drake asked.

“I just said that you both were,” Elijah answered. “Ajax should have just asked, you should have just told him, and neither of you should try to relocate the other’s balls to inside the body.”

“He kissed me,” Drake argued. “You don’t touch each other when you’re angry. That’s a rule.”

“Who’s rule?” Mason asked.

“Kissing is allowed,” Elijah said. “Kissing can turn things around, Drake. God, I can’t believe I have to explain this to you. You don’t touch each other in a negative way when you’re arguing…or any other time, for that matter. But kissing is always allowed.”

“He should have just asked if I had a boyfriend already,” Drake said with a pout.

“You’re in your honeymoon period,” Mason said. “Ajax isn’t going to be himself. Not until you two seal the deal. He’s going to be and do everything I said and more, Drake. We’re shifters. We can’t help it. It’s deeply rooted in our DNA.”

“I like when you get aggressive with me.” Elijah batted his eyelashes at Mason. “Boss me around, tiger.”

“Gross.” Drake wrinkled his nose. “Can you say shit like that when I’m not around?”

“This is what you’re going to do.” Elijah gripped both of Drake’s shoulders, making Drake look right at him. “You are going to go back to that café, strip naked, and watch the fireworks explode. Then you’ll have free coffee and desserts for the rest of your life. Who knows. Ajax might turn you into his dessert.”

“Put the poor guy out of his misery,” Mason said to Drake. “This is pure torture for Ajax.”

“What about me?” Drake argued as he shrugged Elijah off of him. “If I don’t set boundaries now, he’ll walk all over me.”

“Not a chance,” Mason said. “You’re his mate. If anything, you’ll have Ajax simpering at your heels.”

That wasn’t what Drake wanted. He didn’t want a guy who followed him around like a lost puppy. What he wanted was for that fight to never have happened in the first place. Had he really tried to nail Ajax in the balls?

Good god. What was wrong with him? It was as if Drake lost his mind in Ajax’s presence. Was this how things were going to be between them? Ajax jealous and Drake trying to maim the guy?
