And Michael had wanted Drake to play top, which Drake wasn’t. He was a bottom through and through.

Before Michael, Drake had gone through a four-year dry spell where the person interested in him was his hand. He’d dated Michael because Drake had been tired of being alone.

He’d dated Phil only six months after his breakup with Michael, and that had been disastrous. Their relationship had lasted only ten days. When the pants had come off and Phil had made his suggestion on how to take things up a level, Drake had walked out.

There were some really disturbing people in the world.

“You’re avoiding telling me why you’re here,” Tido said.

Drake sighed and told Tido about Ajax, minus the shifter and mate thing. “We just met, and he acted jealous as fuck over a phone call.”

“I’ve been to Bluebird Café,” Tido said. “Ajax is gorgeous.”

“What in the hell does that have to do with what I just said?”

“Nothing, just pointing out how hot he is.”

Jealousy reared its ugly head. Drake didn’t want Tido lusting over Ajax. “So what do you suggest I do?”

“Stew about it, decide it isn’t worth the headache, then try everything in your power to ignore it.”

Drake furrowed his brows. “How in the hell did you just quote Elijah verbatim?”

Tido patted Drake’s arm. “It’s what you do, hon. Why change now?”

“Your reverse psychology isn’t going to work on me.” Drake scrubbed his hands over his face. The longer he stayed away from Ajax, the more he wanted to run to him. This was crazy! No one should crave a guy they’d just met. Not this much. It was as if every cell in his body was trying to get him to that café.

Drake rubbed his chest, wondering if this feeling would ever go away. Ajax had said they were mates, meant to be together, and damn if Drake didn’t believe it. He actually wanted to cry because he was separated from Ajax.

“You look so miserable,” Tido said. “Do you really have it that bad for him?”

“Yes.” Drake rubbed his eyes. “If I tell you something, do you promise not to breathe a word to anyone?”

“I’m not Elijah,” Tido said. “I can keep a secret.”

Drake looked toward the window when a car passed by. He wasn’t sure if he should tell Tido about shifters, but it would make talking to his friend a lot easier if he had all the information.

“Ajax is a wolf shifter.”

“I see.” Tido nodded.

“I’m not crazy,” Drake defended. “I swear I’m telling the truth.”

“This from a guy who laughed at us when we were talking about seeing men shift into animals,” Tido reminded him. “You said no pics, no proof.”

“Since you’re not calling me a liar, I’m assuming you believe me.” Again, Tido was so naïve. Drake could have been lying, and his friend would believe him. This was why Drake was so protective of him.

“I already told you that I saw someone changing into a lion, Drake. You thought I was loony, but I really saw it, so, yes, I believe you.”

“They’re called shifters.” Now Drake wondered who was a lion in Midnight Falls. “Ajax says I’m his mate, which means fate thought we would be perfect for each other. I have no idea what to do.”

“Are Elijah and Mason mates?”

“Yeah, they are. Gage and Roman are mates, too.” Drake sat up. “I’ll probably get into a lot of trouble if you tell anyone I told you this.”

“I’m not Elijah,” Tido reiterated. “Besides, who in the hell would believe me?”

Drake narrowed his eyes. “Don’t tell Alan. I still can’t believe you’re seeing him again. You can do a lot better, Tido.”
