“You wouldn’t believe the chaos that happened here. Kenji damn near ripped the café door open and stormed inside, shouting that you’d been taken. Kenji, Mason, and Ajax are on their way, Tido. Are you okay? Were you hurt?”

Tido touched his throbbing cheek. “I’m okay. Did Kenji say how long it would take for them to get here?” Tido whispered.

“I heard him telling Mason it was a three-hour drive. They left thirty minutes ago.”

Shit. That meant Tido would have to sit tight for two and a half hours. He wasn’t even sure he had that long. Luther had looked like he really wanted to end Tido’s life.

“I’m in a house,” Tido whispered. “Some guy named Luther has me. I need you to call Ajax and tell him to give Kenji my phone number.”

“You don’t have Kenji’s number?”

“Now isn’t the time for that,” Tido argued. “Just do it!”

“Okay. Calling him now.” Drake hung up.

Tido frowned. Why hadn’t Drake just added Ajax’s call to theirs? He rolled his eyes and silenced his ringer so Luther wouldn’t hear when Kenji called.

Time felt like it stretched on forever before Kenji finally called him. In truth, it had been less than a minute. But when your life was on the line, forty seconds felt like an eternity.

“Where are you?” Kenji growled. “Are you okay?”

“I’m okay, and I’m with Luther,” Tido whispered, glancing toward the door. “I think I’m in his house. He stuffed me into some bedroom, but there’s bars on the window.”

“Kramer’s house,” Kenji noted. “We’ll be there soon, hon. Just don’t rile Luther. He has a nasty temper.”

No shit. Tido’s cheek would attest to that. “I’m scared.”

“I know, love. I’m sorry you got pulled into his bullshit. I promise I’m on my way, and by the time I’m done with Luther and Kramer, we won’t have to worry about them any longer.”

“I love you,” Tido blurted out. “I just…I just thought you should know I’ve fallen in love with you.”

Kenji gave a warm, much-needed chuckle. “I think I fell in love with you the moment we were introduced at the ice cream hut.”

His mate’s voice on the line was a beacon of comfort, a reminder that he wasn’t alone in this ordeal. Tido’s heart swelled as he realized that Kenji’s love was all he needed to stay strong. “That soon?”

“Yes, that soon,” Kenji said.

Tears welled up in Tido’s eyes. The situation felt hopeless, and all he wanted was his mate’s arms wrapped around him.

Pull yourself together. Now isn’t the time to fall apart.

Despite being locked in a bedroom, Tido remained cautious. He listened carefully for any noises that might indicate Luther was nearby. His heart raced with every footstep he heard, his imagination running wild with what could happen if Luther returned.

Time felt like it was crawling, each minute a burden to bear. Tido wished he could be anywhere else but in Kramer’s house. The thought of Kenji’s promise to rescue him gave him the strength to remain patient, even with Luther’s barbs still lingering in his mind.

Tido moved away from the window when he saw someone walking close by. Unfortunately, moving killed the signal and the call was lost.

“No,” Tido whispered as he moved back toward the window, but he couldn’t get another signal. “Shit.”

At least he knew Kenji was on the way.

With nothing else to do but wait, Tido pulled out the small notebook and opened it. The handwriting was sloppy and a bit hard to read, but Tido managed.

And the more he read, the more his jaw dropped.

It was a list of names of those who had betrayed Kramer by leaving the pack. The sick monster had even written how those people had met their untimely deaths and the dates.

But there were also names that didn’t have a cause of death. People Tido was pretty sure were still alive and didn’t know their deaths were imminent. Because next to those names were grievances Kramer had against them. Petty shit. Like how some guy named Daimon had turned down Kramer’s advances. The notes next to Daimon’s name weren’t flattering.
