“You’re welcome.”He cleared his throat.“Thank you for the kiss.”

That blush returned to her cheeks.Rhys liked that he could do that to her.“Oh.”

“I haven’t kissed anyone before,” he added.

Her eyes widened in surprise.“Oh.”

An unexpected, unwelcome sense of nervousness washed over him.“May I try again?”

Hannah looked at the control room’s open door, then back to Rhys.“Is this going to make things weird?”

“How could a kiss be weird?”

“This could make our working relationship weird,” Hannah explained.“We’re also sharing my home right now.”

Rhys understood.“So, we cannot combine our working relationship with our personal desires.”

“Yeah, it could complicate things.”

“A kiss could complicate such things?”

“It wouldn’t stop at kissing. It never does.”

“Of course it could,” Rhys pointed out.“We’re both in control of our emotions and impulses. But if you don’t want to kiss me, you’re under no obligation to.”

“You’re making this even harder for me, you know?”

“No,” Rhys replied, confused.“I don’t.”

“I want to kiss you,” Hannah replied. She swallowed.“Among other things.”

Vague, shadowy images of his naked arms and legs twined with a woman filled his mind. Her cries of pleasure encouraged him, her breathy voice repeating his name as he thrust into her in time with the slam of their bed’s headboard against the wall.He had no idea who the woman was, but it must have been his original’s memory, based on the bed.Beds aboard ships and spaceports didn’t have headboards.

He thought about his current iteration doing that, but with Hannah underneath him.It was a heady notion, one that had every nerve in his body alight. The front of his flight trousers became uncomfortably tight.

“Rhys?You faded out again.”

“I remembered something,” he replied hoarsely.

Concern flared across her features.“Another flashback?”

“Yes, but it wasn’t a bad one.The opposite, in fact.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

He shook his head.“It would make things weird.”

That remark drew a smile from her.“Was itthatkind of flashback?”

“Do you mean sexual?Yes.”

She laughed.“I appreciate the bluntness.”

“What’s the point of lying?”

“That’s a good attitude to have.”Her mirth faded.“Thank you to you and your team for repairing the power grid.”

He nodded.“Thank you for letting my people stay on New Eden.”
