I could only blink as I took in her words, as I understood them.

The money meant nothing to me. She could spend hundreds of thousands of dollars, and it would go through. It was the utter audacity that surprised me—the reckless abandon with which she stole my card and made purchases that would seem too substantial to anyone else.

She’d done this to sway me out of keeping her. She thought that stealing from me was the most surefire way to make me release her.

Too bad it wasn’t going to work.

“Stealing from a mob boss was your best solution?”

She turned to face me fully, leaning into the display and tapping her fingers on the glass there. “You left me no other option. If I run, I faceconsequences.” She put air quotes around the word. “If I go to the police…well, I can only imagine what would happen if I opened my mouth. My only option is to show you that I’m not worth keeping.”

With this stunt, she’d done the opposite.

If she was willing to do something this reckless, Icouldn’tlet her go free.

“Stellina, do you know how difficult it is to pay off debts to someone like me?”

It was a goad, me telling her this. But I wanted to see her reaction. Clearly my threats to her earlier weren’t holding any weight like I thought they would.

She stiffened, her lips pulling together as she turned back to the bag in front of her.

Good.

Her voice grew louder. “Miss? I think I want two of these,” Sienna said, holding up the display model.

The woman’s eyes flashed with dollar signs before she nodded in approval. “That is awonderfulchoice. I don’t think I could have picked a finer bag.”

I glanced down at the price tag.

She couldn’t have picked a more expensive one.

“You could let me go,” she said, looking me over as if assessing an enemy.

She was playing with me.

I shook my head. “No, I’d like to see how far you’re willing to take this.” I tucked both hands back into my pockets. “Buywhatever you’d like. A purse. A car. A house. Money is no object to me. But know that you’ll be indebting yourself to me. Youwillpay the full price back in one way or another.”

She paused as if considering.

“I have limits on what I’m willing to do,” she said in a low, almost threatening tone.

“When you owe me money, you’ll do whatever I ask.”

I expected her to hesitate, maybe to change her mind.

Sienna defied all expectations as she turned her back on me and strode toward the glass counter. The high-heeled lady at the front showed her the bags, and Sienna looked invested in her demonstration. “Is there anything else we can do for you here today?” the woman asked.

Sienna spared me a single glance before smiling devilishly. “No, I don’t think so.” She met my eyes before continuing. “I have a few more stores to check out before the evening is through.”

My brows rose of their own accord.

A few seconds after the card was swiped, I heard the telltale chime of my phone.

Justin would send a thorough account of all the prices and exchanges, and I’d keep track. The number didn’t matter to me, but it certainly would to her in the end when I came to collect.

Sienna strode from the building ahead of me, carrying a large bag with her two Gucci purses inside. I wanted to ask if she knewwhat she was doing. I wanted to scold her for being ignorant. Instead, I followed behind her.
