I’d been waiting for this moment for years, and it was finally here. I was finally in a position to get what I needed—to hurt the people who hurt me first—and I couldn’t hold back that festering rage, no matter how hard I tried.
I used all my strength to turn in his hold and spit in his face. A bold move and one that a woman like me, the type I was portraying at least, would never do in the face of danger like this.
My spit flew into Dante Guerra’s eye, and his menacing gaze turned deadly. Satisfaction warmed my very soul at the anger that was barely contained as he shifted his gaze to meet mine.
This was the first test of the evening—a test to see how much I could get away with. I needed to know how easily he could lose it before I actually let this shit go down; it was important to know what buttons I could press and live to tell the tale.
My mind reeled back to when I’d been sitting on the rooftop of a nearby building, watching through binoculars as the man before me got into a brawl with a bar owner. When the bartender came outside, he’d moved her aside before continuing his assault on the owner. I’d watched him leave all the women in his path alone. The children, too. Yet, the men…
I didn’t even want to think about the way he’d brutalized them all one by one as they came out to try and fend him off.
I planned to exploit his softness for the more delicate sex.
He didn’t hesitate before shoving me hard into the wall and lowering his face to mine.
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” he asked, not bothering to wipe the spit from his face.
My heavy breathing wasn’t feigned this time. I may have hated him, may have planned every part of this meeting down to the very subtle color of my shoes, but to be stared down by a manI knew to be completely unhinged was enough to have my heart beating quicker.
His hard eyes blazed with fury and warning, his prominent brows remained downcast over his eyes. Somehow, he managed to both appear intimidating and annoyed, as if I was somehow wronginghim by being ‘scared’ and ‘upset’ that he was currently trying to rough me up.
I made a show of swallowing thickly and allowed my voice to quiver. “Let me go, and I promise—”
His hand wound around my throat in a way that had me choking on the last few words. It wasn’t tight enough to kill me, just threatening. It was a promise that this could get significantly worse for me if I wasn’t careful.
“I didn’t ask for promises,” he snarled. The depth of his voice sent shivers down my spine and then up my body. “I asked who you are.”
“Nobody,” I gasped, shaking my head. I stopped when I recalled the grip he had on my throat. “I—I’m nobody.”
“Do you plan on dying tonight?”
It was a calculated risk to both spit in his face and allow myself to be put in this position, but as I stood unharmed, I knew it had been worth it. Even if it was just for the sake of my own ego.
“Please—”
“What’s your name?” he cut me off again, looking over every crevice of my face. For dramatic effect, I forced a tear to fall from my eye.
“Sienna.”
“Well, Sienna. You’ve walked into quite the predicament.”
“I won’t tell anyone,” I swore.
“We’re past that,” he said, that dark tone turning almost seductive. For a split second, my body began to react strangely. I trembled beneath him, and this time, it wasn’t an act. I could handle violence. I could fight like the best of them, but when moments like this turned sexual…

“I don’t make a habit of harming innocent women. Are you innocent, Sienna?”
“Yes,” I finally responded, swallowing beneath his hand.
One of his thumbs came up and stroked my cheek, causing me to freeze up completely.
No, no. I needed to hold it together.
“I find it odd that you’d stumble into this alleyway today of all days.”
“I—I was,” Fuck, pull it together! “just trying to get through to the other side. I’m meeting friends for lunch at the Italian placeon the corner, and there wasn’t any parking. I thought I could just cut through this alleyway and—”
