I whipped her around, keeping my hand on the back of her head as I pinned her body to the wall with mine.

Fuck, she was attractive. With her full lips and flushed cheeks, I couldn’t help but imagine the things I yearned to do to her.

Keeping her here for a while may have its perks, after all.

“For the time being, you’remine,” I told her. “Until I decide that you aren’t going to slit all of our throats, you’re my property. If you try to leave, I will find you, and you’ll suffer the consequences.”

“I’m not your fucking property,” she spat, lunging forward.

Her body pressed deeper into the swell of my groin, and it took everything in me not to groan. “You are. Next time you decide to spit in a man’s face, you’d better hope he acts the way I am right now. I don’t think you want to see the alternative.”

She opened her mouth, likely to say something that would land her in deeper shit.

“Try your luck if you want to,” I said, turning my back to her as I strode back toward the door. “You’ve only seen the nice side of me, Stellina. Nobody wants to see the other side.”

I slammed the door to the room shut behind me.

I leaned against the wall for a long moment as he left the room.

The lingering trail of his fingers across my hips, wrists, and the back of my neck had my breath coming in quick bursts.

It didn’t matter how my body reacted to a man like him. It didn’t matter that his dark eyes captivated me. I was here for a reason, and I needed to continue giving him reasons to keep me here. I could create a bond with him to exploit later. For now, I needed to be a threat great enough that he wouldn’t let me go.

I’d let that anger I was so familiar with come too close to the surface. I needed to fight him, but I had to be careful and not let him see all my cards. I had to remember who I was facing.

Hell, I’d kept my temper in check with Valentino foryearsas he put me through the most torturous and brutal training I could imagine. I’d been beaten and bloodied dozens of times, and I’dneverspit in his face. I’d never challenged him the way I was pushing Dante.

But being around the son of the man who killed my father was different.

There was a personal vendetta here that I couldn’t unravel.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a moment.

I was here to stay for the time being. Now I just needed to make sure whatever I did in the meantime helped me in the future when it came time to doing the job I’d set out to accomplish.

Looking around the room, I noticed that there wasn’t much in here aside from an old-looking couch, a desk with nothing on it, a chair tucked against it and the curtains hanging over the windows. Aside from that, the place was empty.

Heading over to the desk, I opened up the drawers and looked inside. Not much was here either, save for a few paperclips, a metal ruler, and a roll of duct tape.

Honestly, I’ve had to work with worse in the past.

Checking the door for any activity, I quickly pulled the items out of the drawer and got to work on making a make-shift shiv.

Filing down the side of the metal ruler was the hardest part, but once I was able to break off the tip of it into a sharp, pointed edge on the bottom side of the desk, I was left with a rather deadly-looking weapon.

Using the duct tape and the bent paperclips, I created a makeshift hilt and swung it around a few times, testing the weight.

Perfect.

Now I just needed to keep it hidden until I could use it.

I didn’t have to wait long before an unfamiliar man strode into the room and stared daggers at me. I stared back unflinchingly, and his brows rose almost imperceptibly.
