Whatever it was, it had me rubbing the back of my neck, a drop of unease in a sea of satisfaction.

“You hungry?” Ace asked. Without saying anything, I shook my head, and Celeste looked at me, suddenly puzzled. Her eyebrows narrowed in confusion as she sat up straighter and tilted her head.

Mel exhaled a laugh as she moved away from the stove and squeezed a lemon wedge into her drink. “Nope. He doesn’t get any if he’s going to pout like that.”

Ace shot her a look, one that she instantly returned. I knew they were speaking their thoughts to each other in their minds, which was something they’d always been good at. It’s their stupid fucking twin telepathy, and I quickly learned to dismiss it whenever I saw it.

Celeste slid off her stool and took a step toward me. “You okay?” she asked, her tone hushed.

My eyes met hers, the golden-brown shimmering irises lighting up with each and every blink. God, I was more than fucking okay, but my natural tendencies were beginning to push through.

With a quick glance to the others, I leaned forward slightly. “Come with me,” I commanded, letting my hands fall back into my pockets. Without waiting for an answer, I turned to go, and I could hear Celeste’s footsteps follow. I guided her up the stairs and to the left, leading her to the last door in the hallway.

She has been here before, once on the night of the Open House party, and again just a few nights ago when she slept in my bed.My bed,the one that has always been just mine and has never been slept in by anyone other than me.

I pushed open the door to my bedroom, a light scent of sandalwood and earth tones wafting in our direction. Celeste stepped through the threshold, and I gently closed the door behind her.

“What’s going on?” she asked with a hint of worry.

A small piece of me broke as I heard the faint quiver in her voice, and I knew I had to ease it away completely.

“Fuck. I don’t know what it is, Celeste.” I ran a hand through my dark hair, gently pulling at the roots.

“Caius?”

I didn’t give her any more room to speak. “I’ve always been reserved and closed off, I guess it’s just from the way the world works here. I’ve avoided attachment to everything because I know that death is inevitable. But now that I see you with this,” I reached up and brushed the three with my fingertips, “and I see how comfortable you are here, I know, with absolutely no doubt in my mind, that you fit here. I’ll never try to convince you to believe in this, or to commit your soul to me. Even if that’s what you want to do, that’s not my intention. But with every passing moment with you, I just know. You belong in this world, with me,and that scares the living fuck out of me because no one has ever belonged here like you do.”

Her eyes glistened in the gloomy daylight as she soaked in my words, her face soft and gentle.

“There hasneverbeen anyone like you, Celeste, and there will never be anyone but you.”

I watched as her throat moved in a swallow, pushing down all the emotion I was giving to her. And, with a straightforward step, she closed the space between us, reached up on her toes, and pressed her lips onto mine. It was the sweetest taste, the richest touch, and I had it right here, in the afterworld between Heaven and Hell.

My hands instinctively picked her up from under her thighs, causing her to wrap herself around me. I walked her across the room to the bed and laid her down, her dark hair fanning out under her, contrasting the pure white silk sheets. Her hands immediately undid her jeans, and she pushed themdown and off her legs. I helped her take off her sweater, leaving her bare to me. The backs of her hands, the bends of her elbows, and the bottoms of her collarbones were all depigmented from her vitiligo, and this was the first time I could truly acknowledge that she wasn’t trying to cover herself from me.

There was no hiding. There was no running.

This was her, exposing all of herself to me, in the most vulnerable of ways.

Reaching down, I took both of her hands and kissed my way up her arms, marking every inch of her skin, vitiligo or not. There was nothing I didn’t want from her.

When my lips found their way to the top of her shoulder, I paused to grip my shirt at the back of my neck and pull it off, only tearing myself away from her for a second. I kicked off my sweatpants and boxer briefs, leaving me just as bare as her.

My lips kissed her neck, nipping and sucking interchangeably as slight moans slipped from her tongue. It was taking all of me to soak her in, to devour her slowly, rather than giving in and rushing my way into her.

But with every groan, with every arch of her back and claw in my skin, I drove closer and closer to simply easing my way into her without a second thought.

My hand grasped the back of her neck as my thumb stroked her jawbone. I could feel her goosebumps under me as our bodies rested against one another, our skin connecting in a desired heat.

“Caius,” she echoed to me, knowing that my name on her tongue is my ultimate weakness. It was her way of claiming me, even though my soul was already eternally promised to her.

“Fuck, Meum Caelum,I’m not even inside you yet, and I already feel as if I could release everything to you.”

She hummed her approval through closed lips, a gentle grin settling in her expression. I leaned up and kissed the threethat lined the left side of her face, letting my hair fall down over my forehead and barely over my closed eyes.

My free hand moved down Celeste’s body, brushing against every goosebump I could find. My fingertips trailed down over her hipbone, releasing a shutter that racked through her body. Her sensitive skin quivered under my touch as I moved to the space between her legs, letting my hands feel the radiating warmth she had for me.

My lips remained against the side of her face as my fingers slid into her pussy, her arousal instantly soaking me and making my cock twitch. Fuck, I didn’t think I could get any harder, but she was proving me wrong by simply existing.
