How fucking wrong she’s just proven me.

Everyone falls quiet as Titch manages to cut the sound on the speakers and a quick glance shows everyone staring at me.

“The fuck are you all staring at?!” Rocco yells, his tone laced with venom. “Get back to whatever the fuck it was you were doing.”

Everyone moves then, pretending to be busy, as I scan the space and lock eyes with a startled looking Zoe.

My feet move on their own accord, my veins pumping with molten lava as I stalk toward Zoe.

“Grayson. I didn’t do that.” She rushes out, holding her hands up, but not taking a step back to try to avoid me.

“No?” I snap, gripping her arm and tugging her forcefully to my chest. “Did I fucking imagine hearing your voice?”

“It’s not what you think.” She tries to explain, but I’m too fucking angry to want to hear her excuses in front of a fucking audience. There are always people here. Always fucking nosey bitches butting in.

I need to get away from here. I need to get Zoe away so we can have it out once and for all.

“You have no fucking idea what I think, Princess.” I hiss in her face before turning and dragging her toward the row of bikes and the old beat-up truck.

“Ouch, you’re hurting me!” Zoe cries before a crazy eyed Alana leaps in front of us.

“Let go of her.”

“Back off, Alana. This has nothing to do with you.”

“The fuck it doesn’t. She’s my friend. I’m not going to stand by and watch you manhandle her.”

I should give Alana credit for sticking up for her friend, and watching out for Zoe, but right now she’s a fucking roadblock more infuriating than the ones the Reapers have been stopping us with.

Forcefully, I tug Zoe in front of me, putting her in between me and her friend before I lean in and rasp against her ear.

“Tell her to move, Princess. Tell her that unless she wants to take the rap for the conversation about something I entrusted you with that everyone just heard, then she needs to step the fuck away and let you and me deal with it in private.”

Zoe is tense in front of me and has every reason to tell me to fuck off right now, so I’m surprised when she obeys.

“It’s okay Alana. Gray won’t hurt me.”

Alana flinches, her brows shooting high. “Zoe, don’t get in the truck with him. You don’t even know where he’s going to take you.”

Slowly, Zoe turns, glancing over her shoulder at me, and studies my eyes, like she is trying to see inside my fucking soul.

“Where are you taking me?” she whispers so only I can hear, so I whisper back, hoping if anyone hears, that they don’t understand.

“Nirvana.”

“Will I be leaving that place alive?” she asks quietly, and I hiss, spinning her fully to face me and cupping each side of her face.

“When I told you I’m never letting you go, I meant it, Princess. And since I want to live a fucking long life, then you have to suffer that fate too.”

The slightest smirk tugs at her lips before she eases back from my hold and faces her friend.

“It’s okay. I’ll be back soon enough. Can you make sure Rocco gets that bag I have set aside for him?”

Alana looks like she wants to argue, but it’s Zoe who side steps her and closes the distance to the truck.

“Keys!” I call as I stomp toward the rusty metal.

“Gray!” Titch calls, and when I shoot my gaze in his direction, he tosses the keys to our communal truck, and I catch them.
