Pushing her sunglasses up, she scrutinizes me. Even palms my chin and moves my face this way and that like she’s looking for something.

“Okay, out with it,” she accuses. “What did he do?”

“Do?”

Sighing theatrically, she sweeps some stray strands of hair from her forehead. “Your eyes are puffy and bloodshot. So either Gray did something, or you didn’t get a wink of sleep. But since I heard your snores, I know it’s not the latter.”

“I don’t snore,” I scoff like that’s the important part.

“You do,” Beth chimes in.

“A lot,” Sasha adds.

Alana pins them all with a cold glare. “This is a private fucking conversation.”

“A private conversation in public,” Rose mutters.

“You’re a cunt,” Alana shoots back.

Beth bursts into laughter. “We’re all Cunts, Alana. Well, except for this one.”

Of course, she points directly at me, and for some reason, I feel like I should say something. I just don’t know what. She’s right, I’m not one of them, a Cruz Cunt. They have a sisterhood that I’ll never be able to understand, and a pecking order I don’t want to be a part of. Let alone the expectations of the Kings who just see them as available pussy.

“Yo, Alana.”

I look up in time to see Slasher wave her over.

“Not now,” she grins. “I’ll come find you later.”

“Aww, come on, it won’t take long,” he insists.

Rose sniggers. “That’s not something you should announce so proudly.”

Unable to help myself, I burst into laughter. Before long, my stomach and cheeks hurt, and tears pool in my eyes.

“Don’t act like you didn’t want to climb me like a fucking tree last night, Rose. Just because I prefer Alana to the rest of you isn’t a reason to be so catty.”

While he puffs out his chest and looks mighty proud, I laugh harder. It’s not even that funny, yet I can’t seem to stop. No, I don’t want to stop. I can’t remember the last time I felt so carefree, and now that I’m feeling it, I want to cling to it like it’s my next breath.

“Speaking of Slasher,” Rhiannon says as she comes to join me and Alana on the table. “When are you going to give him up?”

When Slasher mumbles something, Alana turns around and blows him a kiss. Then she turns back to the rest of us. “Why would I do that?”

“Not this again,” Sasha whines. “I’m too sober to listen to Rhi-Rhi bitch about the hottest pieces of ass being taken.”

The fact that I’m so surprised to learn that the girls can choose to be with only one of the Kings irks me. I’m pretty sure this is something I could easily have found out if I hadn’t been so busy being stuck in my head.

I’m not saying I haven’t been preoccupied, but I’m not sure that’s an excuse for two reasons. One, if I’m serious about making plans to get revenge on Grayson, I need allies. And the Cruz Cunts might be able to help. The second reason is that Alana has been kind to me. She didn’t just help me escape, she opened up to me. So if she really wants to be my friend, well, then I’m taking shitty strides.

Right now, however, I need all the distraction I can get. I refuse to think about what happened today. I want to enjoy this moment, no matter how short-lived it will be.

“Taken?” I ask, picking up Sasha’s statement. “Who?”

She rolls her eyes at me like I’m too stupid for her liking. “Let’s count them out, shall we? Rocco, Gray—”

“Grayson isn’t taken,” I sputter, but no one pays me any attention.

“And Slasher.”
