I look at where the women are sitting with plates of food in front of them. I give Grayson a puzzled look, but he just swats my ass and tells me to go sit with them.

As soon as I reach their table, they practically fall over themselves to offer me any food I want from their plates.

“Stop,” I gasp. “What the hell is going on?”

Several of them exchange looks, but it’s Rose who answers me. “You won yesterday,” she says like it’s meant to answer my current question.

“Right,” I agree. “But that was yesterday and this is now. Did you decide to go back on our deal?”

I can’t help pulling a face at the mere thought of having to prove myself again.

Reaching across the table, Alana takes my hand. “What she’s trying to say is, when Mama was banished, Rose had seniority. So now you’re the new—”

“Don’t say it,” I practically growl, holding my hand up to silence her. “I don’t want a role, and I don’t want to be in charge. I just wanted some respect.”

“But this is the highest level of respect,” Beth argues.

I pinch the bridge of my nose and tune them out. It is entirely too early for this kind of discussion. I haven’t even had coffee yet for crying out loud.

“How about we work things out together?” I suggest when it becomes clear I can’t just wait out the silence.

“Someone still has to be in charge,” Alana sing-songs. “Everyone needs a leader, Zoe. There’s no way around it. Besides, you’re practically the VP’s old lady, so you’d still be the second in charge if… if things had panned out differently.”

Leaning back in my chair, I look around the women. Each of them looks eager and hopeful, and it makes me sick to my stomach. I didn’t challenge Rose just to do the same to someone else.

“How about a compromise,” I suggest. “Maybe Alana can fill me in on a few things, and then I’ll try to find a way for us all to work together.”

The Cunts quickly agree.

Reminded of my hunger, I snatch a forkful of eggs from her plate. It’s cold. Not lukewarm, but stone fucking cold.

“Why haven’t you guys eaten yet?” I ask.

I don’t really need to ask to know the answer. It’s all too obvious they were waiting for me. So when Sasha confirms my suspicion, I just nod.

“You don’t have to wait for me,” I say softly. “I appreciate it, but please. I don’t want your food to go cold.”

I accept a bread roll from Rhiannon, and an apple from Rose. That’s all the food I need, and I refuse to take more of theirs.

When we’re done eating, Alana asks to talk to me in private, and I follow her to her room.

Walking to the back of the clubhouse, I realize how little I know about this property. Like, where do all the Kings sleep? And the Cunts? It’s not that the house isn’t big enough to room everyone, it is. But these are things I want to know.

“Here we are,” Alana chirps, opening the door.

The room is as big as Grayson’s, but instead of having a kitchenette, it’s filled with beds. Wait a fucking second.

“Do you all share a room?” I ask, horrified on their behalf.

“Of course,” Alana answers me. Noticing my expression, she explains, “Why would we need individual ones? Most of the time we sleep in a King’s bed. So Mama arranged for us to have two rooms at our disposal that we share.”

“So you never have any privacy?” I question.

She rolls her eyes. “Hold your outrage, Zoe. We have all the privacy we need. But in case you haven’t noticed, we’re not really private people. Anyway, we tend to all group up in one room so our second one can be used by anyone who wants to be alone.”

I gape, opening and closing my mouth like a fish out of water.

“That’s—”
