“Alana,” I call as I knock on her door two days later after finally having my eureka moment.

“What?” she says around a yawn.

Huh, was she napping in the middle of the afternoon?

“I need to talk to all the Cruz Cunts. Can you gather them and have them meet me in the main room in say an hour?”

Alana immediately agrees. Then she points at the notes I’ve written onto the sheet. “Are you going to discuss that with Rocco?” she asks, obviously concerned about the proposed change.

“Not a chance,” I reply immediately. “That man fucking terrifies me.”

She bursts into laughter. “You’ve been unlucky. He’s a good guy, actually.”

I shake my head, unwilling to discuss it. He might be good to her and everyone else here, but not to me. He’s still the guy who gave the order to kidnap me, the man who continues to hold me hostage for his own bottom line.

Back in the common room, I run into Tex who’s sitting behind the bar as per usual. As I’d hoped, he’s alone.

“Hey Tex,” I greet him. “Can I talk to you for a minute?”

He waves me over, and I take a seat next to him.

“What can I do for the princess?” he teases.

I quickly fill him in on my idea, watching him closely for clues while I explain it. Throughout my sales pitch, he remains quiet, only grunting a few times.

“They won’t like it,” he says when I’m done. “But it’s what needs to be done. For the record, I’m happy to back your idea.”

“How much will they dislike it?” I ask.

He laughs boisterously. “Oh, they’ll downright hate it. But they’ll obey, because they know it’s needed. Any idea on how to bring in more money?”

“Yes,” I confirm. “But I want to talk to the people involved first.”

He nods slowly. “You’re really taking this seriously, aren’t you? It seems everyone underestimated you.”

I don’t know whether to feel relieved he’s onboard, or annoyed people keep underestimating me. I decide on the former, since the latter is about pride and nothing else.

“Can I trust you not to say anything until everyone’s back for dinner?” I ask, and he mimes zipping his lips shut.

“Of course. Want me to deny them any drinks when they come back?”

I give him a toothy grin. “And no drugs or cigarettes,” I supply.

“They’ll just love that,” he chuckles. “But as I said, I got your back.”

After grabbing a water, I move a few tables together so there are enough seats for all the Cunts. They arrive with Alana within minutes, all of them looking eager to find out what’s going on.

To my surprise, like Tex, they’re all onboard as soon as I lay down my suggestion.

“I think it’s brilliant,” Sasha cackles. “We’re doing it anyway, so why not make some money from it.”

“And how much do we get to keep?” Beth asks. “I don’t mean to be greedy, but we should keep some of it.”

This is nothing less than I expected.

“I agree,” I say. “I think you should decide on a percentage. However, I also think you need to take on some of your own expenses. Like personal hygiene products, why do the Kings pay for that?”

One of the Cunts I haven’t interacted with much scoffs. “Because it’s in their interest we smell nice.”
