I glance at the tattooed man as he gets in beside me, still aiming the gun at me. The engine’s roar breaks the stifling silence.

I swallow hard, my heart pounding like a drum against my ribcage. With one last glance at the man beside me, I grip the steering wheel tightly, put the car into drive, and press down on the accelerator. “Where am I driving?”

“No questions, just stay on this road.”

I nod, my jaw clenched as I focus on the road ahead. My mind races, trying to devise a plan of escape while also keeping an eye out for any opportunity. But every time I think of something, I remember the gun and the cold, calculating look in this man’s eyes.

After about ten minutes, he reaches for my purse on the floor, making me tense. And then he pulls out my cell phone and chucks it out of the window, making my stomach drop. The one thing that could have been used to track me is gone. I almost release a sob but hold it back. I don’t want him to think I’m weak.

As we drive for what feels like hours, I try to keep track of our location, but soon realize we’re deep into the countryside with no recognizable landmarks. Panic sets in as I realize how helpless I am.

My night, which was horrible before, has now turned into a nightmare.

Is there a way out of this?

I’ve got no idea, but I know I have to try.

One thing at a time, Lila,I tell myself.First, get through this night. Then, think about how to escape.I take a deep breath, gripping the steering wheel tighter as I continue to drive into the unknown, feeling vastly underprepared for what comes next.

The moonlight dances across her face, illuminating her features and making her look celestial. Damn, she’s beautiful. The kind of woman who makes a man’s blood pump harder and faster. Right now, all I can think about is the searing need coursing through my veins. It’s been too long. My gaze is glued to her, watching every nervous twitch and panicked glance she throws my way. It amuses me.

Her palpable fear fills the car with a heady tension that thrills me. There’s something about it, the raw, primal fear that screams survival. It’s intoxicating. And it’s all because of me. I’m the predator here, the omnipotent force driving her into a frenzy of fear as we tear down this desolate road.

I study her; her hands are tight around the steering wheel until her knuckles turn bone-white, and her heart beats so frantically in her neck, like a bird trapped in a cage. She’s an interesting puzzle, this one, and I can’t wait to solve it.

Her attempts to remain calm and her struggle to keep her wits about her only fuel my desire more.

This is power, the kind of power I’ve been starving for inside. The kind of power that makes my heart pound with anticipation. This is the fear I can taste, the control I can manipulate, and thethrill I can hardly wait for. And this beautiful, terrified woman is the catalyst to it all.

I lean back in my seat, a smirk playing on my lips as I watch her wrestle with her emotions. It’s been a while since I’ve been this entertained. Her terror is my ecstasy. Her dread is my delight. After years in prison, this is exactly what I need.

And I want her. God help me. I want her. But for now, I can wait. I’ve got all the time in the world. First, I need to get far away from this state. Pulling the pack of cigarettes and lighter that I stole from a security guard out of my jacket, I light one up.

She clears her throat. “Do you mind? I don’t want my car stinking of smoke.”

I smirk as she tries to sound brave. “I don’t give a shit. I need a smoke.” Drawing a deep inhale, I roll the window and blow it out of the car. “I’ll blow the smoke out the window.” Instantly, it calms me and the ravenous hunger grating at my insides. My cock has been hard since I set eyes on her.

Her jaw clenches, and she tightens her grip on the steering wheel to contain her anger. Maybe she’s not as scared as I first thought.

“Where are we going?” she asks again.

It’s been a couple of hours since I got in her car, so her restraint is admirable not to have spoken for this long. I can detect a slight tremor in her voice, indicating she’s still scared.

I remain silent for a moment, savoring the tension. Then, without shifting my gaze from the road ahead, I say, “Far away from this state.”

My response only serves to heighten her fear, but somehow, she finds a drop of courage to nod, and we continue our journey enveloped in heavy silence.

After another hour, I spot a seedy motel on the road just over the Illinois border. “Stop here,” I demand.

Without hesitation, she pulls the car into the motel’s parking lot. “Turn off the engine,” I order. She does as told, turning the key and glancing fearfully at me. “And now,” I say, my voice low and steady, “You’re going to go in there and get us a room.” I pull out some cash I stole from the security guard and pass it to her. “And if you even think about messing with me...” I let my words hang in the air for a moment. I don’t need to finish the sentence. The implication is clear.

She nods before getting out of the car.

I watch her go, a dangerous mix of lust and power pumping through my veins.
