I stared at the shirt. It was the same kind he had given me before. The same one he had ripped. The memory of it and the sound it had made caused me to shudder deliciously. But now that I was partly awake, satiated, and not running on adrenaline alone, I had time to look at the material a bit closer. It didn’t resemble anything I had ever seen on Earth.

He approached me with a wet cloth and began cleaning between my legs, a gesture I more than appreciated, even though it embarrassed me slightly.

“I need to talk to you before I take you to get cleaned up,” Thor said, drying me.

I pulled the oversized shirt he had given me down and thought,Uh-oh, here it comes.

“My clan and I crashed here five years ago.” I wasn’t sure where this was going or what his eyes tried to tell me, but I steeled my heart. “And for most of us, it has been even longer since we saw a woman.”

I definitely didn’t like where this was going. I wasn’t ignorant; I knew there were women on Earth who were into the whole reversed-harem thing, but that wasn’t me. Plus, from what I had caught from my quick glimpses when we moved through the cave system, there were over fifty men here.

“My men won’t touch or harm you, but I can’t guarantee that they won’t try to pursue you,” he said, confusing me even more with where this was going. “Unless you agree to mating me.”

What? “Mating you?”

He nodded. “If we are officially mated, the others will respect that bond and won’t approach you with uninvited… proposals.”

“And what would thoseproposalsbe like?” I asked, not because I was curious, more because I wanted to see him squirm a bit. Because it seemed to me that mating him would benefithimmore thanme.

“They would bring you food and drinks, ask you to accompany them on walks, give you presents…” Thor trailed off.

Now, that didn’t sound too bad.

He must have read my expression. “Trust me, there are seventy-eight men in my clan. If all of them show you attention, you won’t have a minute to yourself.”

“Maybe I don’t want a minute to myself,” I said, studying his reaction.

“Fighting might break out,” he cautioned.

That sobered me. I didn’t want that, and in all honesty, I didn’t want to bepursuedby seventy-eight men, either. One was enough for me.

“What does it mean if we are mated?” I asked.

“That you are mine. We will stay together, here, and I will make sure you have everything you need or want. You will have my protection.” I sensed that there was more to it than he let on, but so far, it didn’t sound bad. “We will need to go into the main chamber, where I will formally introduce you to the others and we’ll… pledge ourselves to one another.”

“You would do that for me?” I asked, bewildered. He hardly knew me, and yet he was willing topledgehimself to me to keep me safe.

“I would do anything for you,” he said, stepping closer, and his blue eyes darkened as his pupils expanded. There was such vigor behind his words that I swallowed, reading the truth on his determined face.

Safe. I would finally be safe,I thought. But there was more to it than that. The attraction I felt for him was deeper than him being a mere tool to my survival.

“Thor,” I breathed, and his lips claimed mine.

“We need to find you some clothing,” he said when we came up for air.

I nodded dizzily into his chest. “That would be nice.”

He rummaged through his trunks, but all the pants he found were miles too big on me, so we settled on me wearing my old pants and his oversized shirt for now.

“Let’s get you introduced and the mating ceremony done, then I’ll show you where you can bathe. After that, we’ll fix some clothing and shoes for you, agreed?”

I nodded and opened my mouth to reply, but he had already lifted me into his wide chest, unwilling to let me walk another step on my injured feet.

A girl can get used to this kind of treatment, I mused, leaning into him.

The great chamber at the entrance of the cave was filled with men. I didn’t count them, but I was sure all of them were here. The lizard-man stood by a large bluish shimmering cube, cooking something in a big pot that smelled heavenly.Alien, I thought, remembering that Thor also was an alien, even though he didn’t look like it all. As a matter of fact, I only saw four that looked distinctively alien; all the others looked more like Thor, like the forefathers of Vikings.

I wasn’t sure how that worked since we were in Switzerland, but my train of thought was once again redirected by Thor as he introduced me to his clan.
