“Come, let’s get out of here.” I waved our small group on.

We would leave a trail a blind male could follow, so I decided to keep sentries up to make sure the humanoids didn’t do anything stupid like attack us.

“Are you alright?” I asked, pulling Holly into my arms.

“Thor”—she hugged me tightly—“this is amazing.”

“Come, you must bestarved,” I invited the three women, who I found out were Cara from Italy, Brigitte from Germany, and Noelle from France.

“You have food?” Cara asked, speaking English in a heavy accent.

“We do, and it’s fresh. Well, we have to find out how it tastes first, but we have other food too. And we’ll get you some shoes, and cleaned, and…" I was aware my words were rolling over each other, but I was too excited to stop.

Finally, we had found more women like me, perhaps one of them would know what happened to us and how to go home and— Wait!

There I stopped myself. Home? Did I really want to go back to my old life?

I glanced at Thor, who determinedly talked to the other men in the group, sending some back and handing one his blaster. Would I be able to go back and leave this man behind?

Back, my mind fantasized. Back to the land of coffee, warm beds, and hot showers. Back to computers and where you can tellpeople about your incredible find and… Back to where there was no Thor.No incredible sex, no man who would treat me the way he did—as if I were the most beautiful woman in the world—or show me his love every day.

Where you won’t run into pigs from hell, my mind added.

And where you won’t see mammoths, my heart argued right back.

“How long have you been here?” Brigitte asked me, startling me from my thoughts.

“A couple of months,” I replied, still flustered over where my mind had gone. “And you?”

“All of us about the same,” Brigitte answered.

“Have you been together this whole time?”

Brigitte shook her head. “No, these Neanderthals captured me first, and then the others.”

“Homo habilis,” I corrected automatically, and she stared at me, confused.

“I’m a paleontologist,” I explained. “Those humanoids are called Homo habilis, not Neanderthals, they came much later and were much taller—” I broke off when I realized I wasn’t only babbling, I was giving a speech. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay, I was the same way when they first captured Cara. I was sorry she got caught but happy not to be alone any longer.”

“What did they do to you?”

“They kept us bound the whole time, but they didn’t abuse us. They gave us food and water,” Brigitte said with haunted eyes and a bitter laugh. “I’m not even sure what was worse: me alone out in the wilderness, almost getting eaten by some freaking dinosaur, or being captured by those Homo hab… whatevers.”

“You’re safe now. We’ll take you back to our cave. Thor’s clan is over seventy warriors strong, you will be safe there.”

“How long have you been with them?”

Her question gave me pause for a moment. “Six weeks?” I finally guesstimated. If it had been two months sinceithappened, and I had been alone for about two weeks, that would mean it’s been around six weeks with Thor. It felt like forever and yesterday at the same time.

“And they… they didn’t touch you?” she whispered, leaning her head closer to me. “They look intimidating as fuck.”

“They are perfect gentlemen.” I stretched it a bit because despite these warriors having been nothing but nice to me, I wouldn’t call them gentlemen. That’s like calling a lion a pussycat. Still, the way they treated me came pretty close to it.

“What’s the big guy’s story?” Brigitte eyed Thor, and a wave of jealousy rushed through me.

“He’s mine,” I cleared up to avoid any misunderstandings.
