I caught his eye. “But you’ve never felt…a strange draw, almost like a…an instant infatuation you didn’t understand?”

“Never,” he replied, his gaze curious.

Nodding, I glanced out our lone window, expecting I was already too tired to get my nightly run in before collapsing onto my bed. My head hurt, and I wanted nothing more than to pass out and stop thinking.

“Who is he?”

Huffing an exhale, I turned back toward my friend. Hanson studied me with serious hazel eyes that didn’t reveal a hint of judgment.

“A student?” he pushed when I didn’t answer.

My stomach tightened, and I managed a stilted nod.

“Sexuality is fluid,” he stated with assurance I wish I could feel. “You wouldn’t be the first forty-something man to find out he’s not as straight as he’d always believed. My own Albert never looked at a man twice until our eyes met across the faculty room.”

I’d forgotten that story, and the reminder soothed me slightly.

“Perhaps you should talk to him,” Hanson suggested. “Maybe he can help make sense of what you’re experiencing.”

I nodded, still unsure of what to say let alone think about how Sean had unsettled me.

“Take the time to figure this out, but please, for the love of God, don’t do what Joe Barkley did.”

A huff of laughter left me. That idiot had been married with four adult children, six grandkids—and he’d gotten a freshman pregnant three months after she’d first walked into his class.

“At least I don’t have to worry about knocking him up,” I muttered without meaning to.

Hanson chuckled, and fuck me, if an image didn’t flash in my head of filling Sean with cum.

“Jesus,” I hissed, rubbing my forehead.

“Matteo.”

“Hmm?” I wearily met Hanson’s steady gaze.

“It’s okay—questioning your sexuality at any age is normal. Don’t let anything or anyone from your past dictate otherwise. Search through what this young man stirs inside you. Put a name to it. Accept it without acting on the temptation to touch him. Then move on with the knowledge that you’ve grown in self-awareness, and maybe find a man who isn’t off-limits.”

I’d always been open to expanding my mind and who I was as a human being. Katie had helped me walk that path, for which I would always be grateful, but the situation with Sean was bigger than anything I’d faced before.

With consequences I couldn’t begin to imagine.

Chapter 7

Sean

“Dude,” I said into my cell when Drake answered.

“What’s up?” My best friend since middle school sounded distracted.

“You’re working tonight?” I asked even though I already knew the answer while flopping onto my bed fully clothed after a long-assed day of classes. The pillow-top mattress cradled my body, and the soothing scent of clean sheets put on by the cleaning company I used filled my nose.

I snuggled in deeper with a sigh.

“Yeah. Returning client. Easy to please type. Tasty little morsel too.”

“Lucky bastard,” I muttered, my closed eyes bringing to mind the deliciousness of one hot stoic professor. I wanted to strip him down and hear him groan as he sank his cock into my more than needy, willing hole.

Drake chuckled. “How was it?”
