“But I’m serious about taking some time off. No more booking yourself with clients until you get your degree.”

“That’ll be two years!” I couldn’t imagine going that long without a smorgasbord of dick to help me get off, since as an Elite I wasn’t allowed to browse my old haunts—clubs and apps.

“Are you hurting for money?”

“Well, no.”

“You’ll still act as manager and get that salary,” Micah reasoned. “Just give up the fucking part for a while, so you don’t stay out too late and miss important meetings.”

I actually considered Micah’s suggestion even though he’d tossed it out along with a dig attached. At least he hadn’t sounded like Pop, his voice laced with disdain. The sex work had felt laborious, like a dreaded Monday morning every night I’d been booked with a client.

“Would that mean I could hook up again just for the hell of it?” I asked, my tone a little cautious along with a hint of hopeful, my mind flitting toward a certain professor. “Because you know I can’t go a week without dick.”

Micah shrugged, his lips twitching as though he fought against a secretive smirk. “If you aren’t available for clients, you’ll have to find a way to get off somehow, I suppose. Have at it—just don’t pull all-nighters and make this escorting break a waste of your time and energy.”

Fucking was never a waste of energy.

I focused on Matteo’s presence in my head. I would be free to be a naughty boy…to pursue what he denied us because of some silly ethical standards. One glide of his dick up my tight ass and he’d change his tune. I just had to get him between my thighs. Or behind me. Hell, he looked strong enough to hold me up against a wall.

I would take Teach inside me however the fuck I could.

“I’ll think about it,” I said even though I’d already made up my mind. I opened my mouth to adjust my answer and set it in stone that I was free to fuck around, but in typical ADHD form, a wayward thought shot through my brain. “Preston!”

“Huh?”

“Preston…a client from last year. He was pretty faithful there for a while, and I don’t know what the fuck just reminded me, but the guy is a self-proclaimed computer nerd. He’s a local private contractor—programmer—all that technology shit that baffles me. Maybe he could help us?”

“At this point, I’m close to desperate,” Micah replied. “Can’t hurt to see if he’d be able to dig anything up on this Jackson asshole.”

“Stay here,” I ordered, hopping to my feet. “I’ll go grab his file.” Excitement fluttered inside me. While JJ hadn’t been able to point us in the right direction, maybe my second suggestion could.

I sifted through the folders in alphabetical order in the files beside BeckyAnne’s desk, recalling what else I could about Preston. He was a redhead…Drake’s kryptonite. Funnily enough, the guy had the same first name as Drake’s stepbrother he hardly ever mentioned but definitely different than Casswell, the surname his stepmom had kept when she’d married Drake’s dad.

It was a good thing the client hadn’t requested my best friend. Drake probably would have fallen hard and fast, adding another Elite to the tumble-into-love bug that had taken so many of our employees off the available list.

Preston Gibbons.

“Bingo.” I hurried back to Micah and went to hand the client information form over but paused. “Can I call him?”

Micah nodded. “Go for it.”

Even more of the lingering heaviness in my chest eased at the trust Micah showed me.

I dialed and put the phone on speaker before setting both onto the coffee table between us. It rang twice.

“Hello?”

“Preston?” I asked, glancing at my brother who focused on my phone with a grim look on his face.

“Yes—who’s calling, please?”

“This is Sean Fox from Elite Escorts.”

“Mr. Fox, what a pleasant surprise!” His tone hinted at happiness along with…wariness? Shame, perhaps? He wouldn’t be the first that had stopped booking with us due to guilt over hiring a sex worker.

“I’m sorry to bug you,” I went on, “but Elite is facing something a little…troubling, and I was hoping you might be able to help us.”

“Tell me what the issue is, and if I’m able to be of assistance, and we can come to a financial agreement on the cost, I would be happy to.”
