“Victor said he was heading to the Silver Fang pack to try to prove my guilt,” Luna said, as though lost in a trance.

A grin crossed Adrian’s face at the thought, followed by a look of dread.

It was a possibility that Victor would arrive at a pack full of people who craved blood and wanted Luna’s head. He had a way of perverting the truth.

But the alternative to that …

“Oh, that’s fantastic,” Adrian said.

Luna looked at him questioningly as the faint stirrings of a plan began to take root in Adrian’s mind. “You don’t think Victor’s going to arrive home to a celebration party? They pretty much worshiped the ground he walked on when I last saw them.”

Adrian shook his head.

“I don’t,” Adrian replied simply.

“How can you still have faith that anything is going to work out?” Luna pressed. “You’ve seen how he works. He’ll take any advantage he gets and turn it into a victory.”

“Luna,” Adrian replied, now sitting back down on the bed before placing his hands on her cheeks. “It’s going to be okay. I think I have a plan.”

“Youthinkyou have a plan?”

Staring directly into her eyes, it was hard for Adrian not to see the doubt that was beginning to form.

“Look,” he replied. “I know it seems extremely bleak right now, and it’s hard to move forward. You’ve been through a lot. But you’ve got so many people in your corner, people who wouldn’t dare to see this pack fall apart. There’s me, and there’s Sasha, and then there’s the enforcers. If you can’t believe in yourself, believe inus.”

“And I appreciate your support,” Luna replied. “I never thought I’d have anybody backing me through this. God, I thought I was going crazy.”

Adrian could sense a big caveat coming. “But?”

“You haven’t seen him like I have. Everything I did, he was twelve steps ahead of me. It all ended with me next to Darius …”

She trailed off. Adrian could feel her pain and brought his hand into her hair, where he ran his fingers through, gently touching her ear.

“I know you’re still healing, Luna,” Adrian said. “It was unfair of me to put this on you now, of all times. You should have been given time to recover.”

“It wasn’t your fault,” she shot back. “I know that. I think I blamed you at first, but I can’t blame you now. Iloveyou.”

Adrian smiled, a warmth spreading through his chest at her words. He wanted to believe it was true. Could she really love him more than Darius, at least someday? He’d give anything he could to make it so. “That means a lot. I love you too.”

“Just tell me your plan,” Luna said. “I want to know. I want to help.”

He could finally feel her coming out of her seclusion. She had stopped giving up. She was coming back to fight, and it meant everything to him.

“Well, I can’t tell you everything because if I do, the plan might not work,” Adrian said.

He expected her to interject, but she didn’t. She just stared up at him expectantly.

“But Victor’s got a huge ego, so we’re setting a trap for him. If everything goes according to plan, we won’t have to lift a finger. He’ll destroy himself.”

“Let’s hope everything goes according to plan then,” Luna replied.

“It will,” Adrian answered. “And even if we fail, we get back up, and we try again. Because you’re not just fighting this man alone.”

Luna smiled. Adrian could feel the stirrings of hope beginning to reemerge within her.

The thought of her running away again sent shivers through his spine. He hoped she was patient enough to handle this.

“I’m not going anywhere, Luna,” Adrian said, holding her tightly. She fell into his lap, and he stroked her hair.
