Before I can bring that up, Dominic eyes me. “I thought maybe we could discuss something important.”

“Of course.”

“Your, ah, personal connections. They're intertwining with our professional affairs."

I eye him. I’ve already backed off, so I’m curious as to why he’s bringing this up now. “What's on your mind?"

"Your romantic entanglements… Jesse, Alex, Xavier. They're all part of this world now. It complicates things, and now, with Mario in jail, we need another bouncer. We can't afford distractions or vulnerabilities."

“I was going to bring up needing another bouncer,” I say.

“And the rest of it?”

"You're right, Dominic,” I admit. “The lines between personal and professional are getting blurred. Mario being in jail leaves a gap. Who do you have in mind?"

"We might need someone from outside this circle, someone without emotional ties. It ensures they're solely focused on the job. You've been drawing attention lately, and with the casino opening, security is paramount."

I nod. "True. We need someone capable, discreet, and dedicated. We can't afford any more complications."

He glances at my sandwich.

I laugh slightly. “Go ahead.”

“Thank you, but… your men?”

I can’t help being a little guarded. “It’s complicated, like I said. I've had to distance myself a bit, especially with Xavier's possessiveness causing tension. It's a delicate dance, but the casino can't wait. We need someone we can trust."

He nods. "Agreed.”

I watch as he eats my sandwich. He’s a handsome young man, caring, and kind. I wish he would put himself out there and find a nice girl to settle down with, but he’s already made it clear that he isn’t interested in that sort of life. I think he’s afraid of having kids and not knowing how to be a good father.

As for me, I had a scare a few years back. Testing was done. I’m not fertile. The only way I would be able to have kids is if I adopt, but I don’t think kids are in my future either.

I do, however, think Dominic’s wrong. He would be a good dad.

“Dominic?”

“Uh oh. I know that tone. You want something.” He makes a face.

“I merely have a suggestion. What about Dylan for the bouncer position? He's got the skills, and we could use someone we trust in that role."

“Dylan, huh? It's a risky move, Vanessa. He's the mayor's bodyguard. It might draw unwanted attention."

“True, but it could also be an opportunity. Having an insider on the mayor's side can provide valuable information. We need someone on the inside, Dominic, and Dylan might be our ticket."

“It’s a thought, but we would need to be careful. If this backfires, it could jeopardize everything.”

“I don’t even know if he’ll be able to with his other commitments,” I say. “I’ll talk to Alex and get his thoughts on this before talking to Dylan and seeing if he's willing to take on the role and if he can keep a low profile."

“My opinion alone isn’t good enough, huh?”

“Trust me. I take what you say to heart,” I assure him.

I head over to The Black Lotus and immediately approach Alex. "Hey, Alex. I was thinking about bringing Dylan on board as our new bouncer. What do you think?"

"Dylan? Yeah, he's got the skills for it. Plus, having someone close to the mayor can be an advantage. I'm on board with it if he’s willing."

I smile. "Great. I'll talk to him about it."
