Although, I bet he had abs I could run my tongue down?—

Ashley, stop it, I told myself.Focus.

"Um, that would be great." I hoped he didn't hear the squeak in my voice. Grandma would be proud of me for wanting to ride on his bike. She probably would have propositioned him by now. She was never one to let an opportunity pass her by.

"We're almost there." The traffic was thick near Rapids’ stadium, but he wove us through and around to a rear gate that led into a carpark. A bunch of cars were already parked there, but to my surprise, a few handfuls of people stood around the gate.

They shouted as we drove though, waved past by a security guard.

"Are they angry about something?" I swivelled around in my seat to look back.

No one seemed upset.

We pulled into a parking space and got out to shouts of, "Chase! Chase!"

He turned around to give them a wave before he reached into the back of the SUV for a large bag.

I frowned at him. Who was he? People didn't usually have other people shout out their names in public. Not unless they were famous in some way.

I blinked.

"You play for the Storm Valley Rapids," I said, the information gradually seeping into my brain. "The Australian Gridiron League team." Not as big as the NFL in the USA, but the AGL was growing quickly.

"Yeah." He shrugged his bag up his shoulder and led me toward an entrance into the stadium.

The stadium. The Storm ValleyFreakingRapids Stadium. One of the biggest landmarks in Storm Valley, besides the Demons’ hockey stadium and the Bell family mansion on the side of a cliff, overlooking the water. This place was practically a church for those who worshipped football. Chase was one of their gods, for want of a better way to put it.

OMFG.

I really was asleep at the proverbial wheel until now. Suddenly his caution about Brandi made more sense. Someone like him would attract all kinds of people. What did that make me then? I was pretending to date him. Did that make me 'all kinds of people' too?

I decided it didn't. We were friends who both happened to get caught up in something our partners did with each other.

This whole AGL player thing could complicate things. Unless he brought female friends to the games all the time. That was possible, right?

"Hey Mary," Chase greeted as we stepped inside the building.

An older woman glanced up from behind a reception desk and smiled. "Morning Chase. Feels like a good day for a win."

"It always is." He stopped beside the desk. "Any chance Bam is in yet?" He looked like he was trying to hold back a smile.

"Judging by the shout I heard not long ago, he is," Mary replied. A smile crept onto her lips.

Chase chuckled. "Excellent."

Mary gave him the side eye, even though she was still smiling. "You didn't go pulling any pranks, did you?"

"Who, me?" Chase grinned. "I'd never do that."

"Sure," she said slowly, as though she didn't believe a word. "Get on with you then. You'll be late for warm up."

He patted the top of the desk and gestured for me to follow him.

"I didn't pick you for a practical joker," I said.

"What makes you think I am?" he asked with an innocent flutter of his eyelids. "No one can prove anything."

I snorted. "Just because you didn't get caught doesn't mean you didn't do it."
