“I don’t know. I guess getting away from everything helped. It’s a good distraction. But I do go off sometimes.” I tell him.

“That’s great. And normal. I’d think you turned into a robot if you handled everything normally,” he jokes, making me chuckle softly.

“So, how’s your mom?”I ask him.

“She’s good. The business is great, thanks to you.”

Artsy wasn’t known much except in Portland. But after I built my career, I agreed to sponsor them, which was a great lift for them. It was the least I could do. Lorenzo is the only reason I’m even here.

“It was my pleasure,” I reply, smiling. My mom then enters, holding a glass of water.

“It’s great to see you again. And for two months, too. Which a certain someone won’t be happy about,” she says, and I laugh softly. On that topic, Ellie walks into the room.

“Vi, this is very confusing. You said you’re free today, I thought you’d be able to—” She looks up and notices Lorenzo and her expression drops.

“Talking about that certain someone,” Mom adds.

“Oh my God, not you!” Ellie groans, a frown appearing on her face as she shrugs.

“Miss me?” Lorenzo asks. Ellie holds her frown, turning around and dragging herself back to her room. Mom snorts, lowering her head. I turn back to Lorenzo, who has his hands crossed over his chest.

“She’s too dramatic for a ten-year-old.” I chuckle.

“So, who else are you going to visit while you’re here?” I ask, walking toward the couch and sitting next to him. Mom moves toward the other couch, sitting opposite us.

“Some business owners’ kids, but mostly just short visits. Then there’s Elias, who I’ll be hanging out with at school,” he informs us, turning his head between me and my mom.

“Elias?” Mom asks, a look of disappointment on her face.

“He’s not a bad person. He’s nothing like his father. I honestly think he’s adopted,” Lorenzo blurts out.

Who’s that? And what does he have to do with my mom? “Who’s Elias?” I ask.

“Someone on my blacklist.” Mom explains. Oh. That’s never good.

“That’s a dangerous thing right there, Lorenzo,” I turn to him and say. He pouts, lowering his head.

“He’s a nice person, trust me. I wouldn’t befriend him if he wasn’t,” he states, trying to convince my mom. Are they going to tell me who this guy is or what?

“So? Who is he?” I repeat, hoping they answer this time.

“Elias Miller,” Lorenzo says. Oh.Oh. That makes sense. That makes so much more sense. Mom hates Roland Miller with every ounce of her soul. I mean, I do, too. Of course his son would be on her blacklist.

Roland Miller is one of the most arrogant people to live on this earth. Well, to my mom and I. He owns a business that revolves around art and design, and is also very known. And rich, though he doesn’t deserve it. Hard to believe his son isn’t living as his heir.

“Now I understand,” I say, nodding.

“He doesn’t suck. You met him once in Portland.” Lorenzo tells me. I’ve met Elias Miller? I turn to look at Mom, who isn’t very pleased. “It was one day. He has brown hair and brown eyes. You’ll remember when you see him. I’ll introduce him to you again, I’m sure you’ll like him.”

“If Vi likes him, he’s off my blacklist, so don’t like him,” My mom warns, crossing her arms, and I laugh.

“Okay, I’ll try not to,” I tell her, smiling. Her face neutralizes. She’d do anything for me, and I know that. It’s why I love her so much.

I stand up and turn to Lorenzo. “I’m going to go check on Ellie and get you something from the kitchen,” I tell him. He nods with a smile, and I smile back.

I missed him so much. He means everything to me. I could have a million other friends, but he’d always be my number one. He beats everyone, and always will. No matter what.
