“Ready for me to beat your record on the track?” she asks.

I put my hands in my pockets, taking a moment to appreciate my girl.

“What?” she asks, looking down at herself. “Did I spill something on this shirt already? Why did I choose white of all colors?”

I laugh as I pull her close. “No, Lucky Charm. You’re perfect.” I kiss her lips. “Sometimes I just forget how lucky I am and have to stare at you just to make sure you’re real.”

She melts into me. “I love you,” she whispers.

“I love you more,” I say, nuzzling her nose.

“Impossible.”

I nip her ear and take her hand. “We‘ll see about that. Come with me?”

“Always.”

We walk hand in hand to my Rolls Royce Ghost, and I open the door for her. When I move around to my side of the car, I can’t help but remember the last time we headed to this destination. The mood was so different, and I can’t wait to show her what has changed.

I get in the car, immediately taking her hand in mine as I drive. The moment we pull up beside the familiar warehouse, her brows pinch.

“What are we doing here?” she asks, unbuckling her seatbelt.

“Guess you will have to wait and see.” I follow her out of the car to the door and type in the code that just so happens to be the day I met Evie, the moment my entire life changed.

Opening the entrance, I allow Evie to walk first, taking in her awe as she sees the room. There are no longer tons of boxes and blank canvases. The whole area has been transformed to my art gallery, with a studio in the back and a kitchen area set for two along with a bed.

Every picture I own, that either my mother or I painted, hangs on the wall. Evie gasps, her hand flying to cover her mouth. Tears spring from her eyes, and I wrap my arms around her from behind.

“I once told my mother I wanted to find someone to love who I could share this with. I know she’s looking down, happy that I’ve found you and Damien.”

“Lev, this is…” she turns in my arms as a few more tears fall. “I’m so proud of you too. I know how hard this must have been for you. I love you for finding this part of yourself again.” She kisses me, then heads straight for my sketching table where my notebooks are laid out. I hardly ever do realism anymore, but I have started really getting into charcoal work after coming across an Instagram page where this girl, Mikayla Raquel, taught herself how to sketch, and it inspired me.

Evie looks at the drawing of her and Damien kissing, their lips barely touching while their eyes are still open, gazing at each other. It’s a photo ingrained in my mind as much as that night. The night Alexi asked Evie to marry us.

Ropes are tied around her, but the way she looked at Damien with all of the trust and love in the world, I knew she was perfect for us. I mean, I knew it before then, but I swear to the stars, at that moment, it was like a mate bond snapped into place or something. As if our connection was from another realm.

She traces her finger over Damien’s hair, much shorter than it is now. The charcoal smudges slightly and she gasps, pulling her hand back.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t think.”

I laugh, laying a hand on her back. “Don’t apologize, it’s an easy fix.” I grab my electric eraser and lean over the table. “Details are brought out in charcoal by erasing.”

She watches me carefully, retracing the way his hair fell towards her in the photo. Her hand rests on my back, and I sink into the feeling of doing something I love with the woman I love at my side.

“Why are there paintbrushes here?” she asks, picking up one of my favorites that she gifted me.

“They help with shading.” I pick up the angled brush she held and show her how it creates a fine line for a precise shadow.

“Ghost,” she breathes in fascination. “Will you show me how to use these like you’ve done with painting?”

“Of course,” I say, pulling her in closer. “If it were up to me, you would be here with me every day.”

She picks up a charcoal pencil and twirls it between her fingers before setting it back down. “I love this so much.”

“I love you so much.” And on that note, I’m ready to give her the night I had planned. Taking out the remote from my pocket as I stand, I hit play on the speaker and offer Evie my hand.

“We never got a first dance. Will you dance with me, Lucky Charm?”
