I wasn’t there at the house that night, but I knew what went down. Father called and told me. I hadn’t breathed a single word to them all weekend because of this shit.

As it was explained to me over the phone—after Father had gone on a screaming rampage and threatened to hang Phantom and Isaac upside down by their dicks—we each had a long, bitterly heated talk and eventually came to a unanimous agreement.

The money.

Father had a hefty amount he kept hidden inside our home for my brothers and I to use just in case shit got bad and we had to disappear. The deal was simple. If Samara agreed to leave and stay far the fuck away from Storm Ridge Valley and promise toneverreturn, all would be forgiven. Phantom was ready to wipe his hands clean from her and focus solely on fighting to get our lives back to normal. Isaac didn’t sound so fond of the idea of Samara leaving, but he didn’t protest it. And as for me? Well… It didn’t matter how I felt.

Nobody fucking cared.

“What he needs is some pussy.” Isaac chuckled softly, which did nothing but infuriate me more. “I bet it’ll put an awfully bright smile on that oh-so-handsome face of his. Can’t stay a pussy virgin forever, you know.”

I hadn’t realized I’d slammed my fists down on the table until the loudthudof it ricocheted off the walls and summoned silence amongst the dining hall. I didn’t have to look to know that we’d gained an audience, including Samara, who, from the corner of my eye, was on her feet, staring blankly at the three of us. Sky was right by her side.

“What are you gonna do, Rhett?” Isaac asked, matching my glower with a ruthless one of his own.

“Shut up,” I growled low as my chest started to heave, my lips twisted in a snarl.

“You want to hit me, don’t you?” He cocked his head to the side, taunting me further as he tapped two fingers against his left cheek. “Right here, champ, and make it good. Samara is watching. Who knows, maybe she’ll feel generous enough to cure that pulsing ache she left in your pants the other night.”

“Isaac,” Phantom hissed in a stern warning, but it was too late. I’d already slung my soup bowl at Isaac and stormed away, not giving a fuck that it was scorching hot or that it’d splattered all over his chest and crotch.

That inconsiderate bastard.

I hope the shit melts his fucking ball-sac off.

I didn’t know where the fuck I was going or what I was doing. I just kept walking and fighting back tears.

Why Jace? Why Isaac?

Why not me? What was wrong with me?

As hurtful as Isaac’s words were, they were true. Sure, I had several drunk encounters, got my dick sucked a few times, and inflicted a few screaming orgasms with my expert mouth. But when it came to full on sex, I never let it get that far. I was just… different, I guess. There were a fair number of beautiful women here at the academy, but I’d never come across one I truly gave a damn about. Someone I’d kill for. Someone who made me want to give myself to them in every possible, intimate way.

Not untilshearrived.

After everything that’s happened… After what I did to Brian, and then when we were together at the clearing, before she knocked me the fuck out, everything I felt did nothing but confirm a truth I’d now come to regret.

I’d fallen in love with Samara Campbell.

My legs stopped moving no sooner than I felt a pop of static crackle through the air, making the hair on the back of my neck lift. My eyes grew insanely tight around the corners, narrowing into slits as I spun on my heel to find Samara standing there.

Her big, bright blues were shrouded with apprehension, sweeping over me like she actually gave a fuck.

No, Rhett. Don’t fall for it. Not this time.

“The fuck do you want?”

She took a step away from me the longer I glared at her. “N-nevermind. I knew this was a bad idea.”

“Stop,” I demanded as she turned away, ready to bolt. I squeezed my eyes shut and heaved in a calming breath.Damnit, Rhett.“What do you want?”

“I-I wanted to apologize. Explain myself.”

“There’s nothing to explain.”

“I know you’re angry, but please let me—”

“Angry?”
