“The valley’s airport is shut down. We figured if the girlsdidflee the country, then there’s only one place they could’ve gone. Clover Bay. There’s an airport there. It’s two hours away but it’s the closest airport outside the Valley’s reach.”

“Long story short,” Benny spoke next. “We made the commute and obtained access to the airport’s security footage.”

I felt it when Finn’s body stiffened, shaking the harder he stared ahead, straining not to cry. My heart fell straight to my ass when the revelation hit me hard.

Finn was supposed to call Phantom and have him wipe the footage.

His head slowly turned to level his teary gaze to mine, the unspoken apology thick in the air between us.

He forgot…

Fuck!

He forgot!

“This feisty little thing here,” Benny continued, “was seen exiting the passenger side of a semi and escorting the girls inside the airport. The driver never got out. We don’t know who it is or who she was working with. She’s put up quite a fight these last few days. She won’t talk.”

“Then it sounds to me like she hasn’t been broken in enough.”

A murderous expression washed over Father’s face as he reached down to forcibly grasp Cindy by her jaw and yank her back up on her knees.

“I’m not known for being a merciful man,” his dark voice thundered as Cindy squirmed in his hold, failing to break away. “But just this once, I’ll cut you a deal. Give up the names of the crew who helped you steal my merchandise, andmaybeI’ll consider letting you go free.”

“And if I don’t?” she bravely challenged.

Father chuckled then grabbed a fistful of her dark, colorful locks, snatching her head back so he could level his twisted glare down to her swollen eyes.

“Either you give me what I want, or you’ll live to regret it.”

Cindy angrily pursed her lips and spit in his face, giving him her answer. In result, Father curled his large, calloused fist and decked her with enough force to shatter a cement block. Tears burned my eyes when her head knocked backwards, dazed, her eye fluttering.

Fuck! Cindy! FUCK!

The bastard struck her again before hurling her body near the Bling brother’s feet. She was already out cold before her head hit the floor in another gruesomesmack.

I looked away, my throat bobbing as my hand clasped tighter around my gun, hating how my body refused to cooperate with the demands my brain screamed at me.

“You did good, boys,” Father said to the triplets, who stared like a hungry pack of dogs down at Cindy’s unconscious body. “Finn, Jace, on your feet. I have a job for you two.”

I looked at Finn who was now sagged in his seat, looking like death swept over him, his skin impossibly paler. He didn’t speak. He just offered me a nod and nothing more.

And like the fake, loyal, but cowardly followers we are, we rose to our feet and locked eyes with my father. We held our heads high and stripped our expressions naked, just how the monstrous fuck liked it.

I HAULED ASS DOWN THE road, screamingfuckover and over again as I feverishly pounded my fists on top of the steering wheel.

“Cindy!” Finn shouted in the backseat. “You need to wake up. Fuck, Cindy, pleasewake up.”

She was back there with him, her head in his lap while he delicately tapped her battered, bloody cheeks, desperate for her to wake.

This was fucked. Finn forgot to do the one main thing that would guarantee Ginger’s safety—oursafety—and now, we were being ordered to transport Cindy to some random address Father had given us and to wait for his arrival. Who knew when the fuck that would be, because he seemed to be too caught up enjoying his celebratory shots with the Bling brothers.

I fumbled through another excruciating breath, clearing a mile from the club before I had to veer off the road and park.

“Is she okay?” I asked, too ashamed to look back and see for myself.

“She’s still alive if that’s what you’re wondering, but she won’t wake up. She’s out cold.”

My sight lifted to the rearview mirror, where I watched as Finn’s face crumpled, the tears he’d been fighting back now raining down his cheeks.
