“You. Mother. Fucker!”

“NO! Jace, NO!”

I charged the bastard and inflicted a vicious kick to his backside. He went down, tumbling until he hit the floor and was sprawled out like a starfish.

Father shook his head with a groan as he made to sit up. He didn’t get far before a field-goal kick to the face had blood and two teeth spurting out of his mouth.

A roar burst out of me as I made to stomp his ass into oblivion. I managed to get three good stomps in before I was tackled to the ground by one of the Outlaws I hadn’t considered was still here.

Fuck.

Then in came the other, whipping out his pistol and aiming it for my head, just as Finn came running down the stairs, screaming for the guy not to shoot me. That’s the last thing I heard before everything went black.

Thirty-Two

Finn

“You’reafuckingidiot,”I sneered through gritted teeth at Jace, who’s chest was ferociously heaving as he paced around his jail cell.

That was more or less what it was. After he’d lost his goddamn mind and attacked his father, Damien ordered Reggie and Baxter, the two Outlaws who were here when we first arrived, to lock Jace up in the underground wine cellar.

“You don’t understand, Finn.” He stopped pacing to stare at me, tears shimmering in his dark eyes. “This is my grandparents’ home. He took their goddamn house and turned it into—”

“A whore house?” I finished for him. “Just like I predicted?”

“Fuck. You.”

“Look, man.” I grabbed ahold of the bars keeping us separated and gaped critically at him. “I understand you’re upset. You have every right to be. But do you have any idea what the fuck you’ve done?”

“I know,” he snapped at me, his hands on his head, tugging angrily at his hair. “I don’t regret it, Finn. I don’t. I’d have stomped his fucking brains to mush if it weren’t for—”

“You being a fucking idiot?” I finished again.

A deep growl shook through his chest. “Again. Fuck. You.”

“What the fuck am I supposed to do now that you’re locked up down here, huh?” Jace just scoffed and shook his head, pacing again. “I can’t let you out. I don’t have the key, and I doubt kissing Damien’s ass will help me get you out of here.”

Jace sucked in an impressively deep breath and screamedFUCKat the top of his lungs, dragging it out until his voice cracked and he fell to his knees.

“What have I done?” his tender voice shook. “What have I done?”

Not for the first time, my heart went out to him. I couldn’t imagine the pain he was in. How hurt and angry he was at everything. If the roles were reversed, would I have done the same thing? Abso-fucking-lutely. However, I’d have shot the fucker in the head.

“I’m sorry, Finn. So fucking sorry.”

“Sorry isn’t going to fix this, Jace.”

“Where is Father now?”

“Assuming he’s finished tending to his wounds by now, I’d say he’s with Cindy.”

Jace got to his feet then, meeting me eye-to-teary eye. “Then you need to go and assess the situation. Father will come for me eventually. Cindy is the top priority right now and since I’m in here and you’re out there, that means you have to—”

“I know, Jace. I know what I have to do. Hang in there, okay? I’ll do everything I can to get you out, but I can’t guarantee it’ll be tonight.” I paused, sighing with a curse as I remembered something else. “When’s the last time you talked to Samara?”

Jace’s skin flushed sickly pale. “Ye-yesterday,” he replied after swallowing a gulp. “She-she called to tell me she passed her first trial.” He took one hand off of the steel and pulled out his phone. “That’s great. There’s no service down here.”

“Do you want me to tell her—”
