After taking a detour, we were there within fifteen minutes, all of us gasping in horror as we took in Phantom’s SUV crashed nose-first through the garage.

“PHANTOM!” Rhett screamed, rushing out of the car before Samara and I could plant our feet on the ground.

“NO!” Samara’s body shook as she reached up and covered her mouth, her knees buckling. “No…”

“He’s fine, Samurai. He’s in the house. He isn’t gonna go out like this. Trust me.”

Samara sprinted to the front door. As I entered behind her, I caught her dashing down the staircase towards the basement, where I heard screaming and glass shattering.

“IS SHE DEAD?” a mangled voice screamed as a brutal punch slapped the bare air, stealing my own breath away.

“PHANTOM, STOP!"

“PLEASE,” another familiar voice screeched. “I’M SORRY, PHANTOM. IT’S MY FAULT. JUST PLEASE, STOP!”

I made it down the bottom step, cursing in a feral roar as I took in Phantom beating our father into a bloody pulp on the floor, with Ginger, Rhett, and Samara crowded around them, desperate to yank Phantom away from him.

Samara was riding on Phantom’s back like a spider monkey, her arms locked securely around his neck like she was trying to put him in a headlock. Phantom bucked and thrashed, throwing everyone off of him, including Samara, who flew across the room and crashed spine first into the side of the pool table, whimpering in excruciating pain when she hit the floor.

“SAMARA!”

I rushed to her side, my jaw ticking as she painfully struggled to push herself up, shaking her head at me. “I’m fine,” she rasped, her watery eyes locked on Phantom. “Go, Isaac. Just help him.Please.”

I grasped her face and pressed a tender kiss to her lips, not giving a fuck if I’d get slapped over it later. Surprisingly, she kissed me back, reaching up to cup my cheek. She rested her forehead against mine, sighing in defeat.

“Go, Isaac. Go.”

I got up, kissing her again before I turned to face Phantom, Rhett, and Ginger, who were both on the floor, groaning in pain as they struggled to stand.

Phantom swung back another punch at Father, his raised hand shaking, smeared with blood. As fast as I could, I dove on top of Father and took a vicious blow to the back of my neck that had left me physically stunned.

I lay there, tears filling my eyes, as I suffered assault after assault to my body, my brothers’ anger and his vicious roars pummeling me breathless.

“PHANTOM!”

Rhett got to his feet, as did Ginger and Samara, all of them limping towards them as fast as their exhausted bodies would let them. Rhett dove on top of me while Ginger and Samara worked together to pry Phantom away from me, Rhett, and Father.

“Mi dispiace, figila,”Father cried out in a language I'd never heard him speak before. “Mi dispiace.Mi dispiace. ”

Samara stopped moving then and let go, stepping back with a foreign emotion in her eyes I couldn’t decipher. “No,” she breathlessly whispered, shaking her head with a dazed expression on her face. “No…"

Phantom roared and backed away, pulling out his gun as he snatched Samara up by her arm and pressed the gun to her head, tugging her away.

“Don’t follow us,” he commanded as he advanced farther away from us, nudging the gun harder against Samara’s head. “Just fucking don’t.”

“Samara!” screamed Ginger.

“I’ll be okay,” she promised. “He won’t hurt me. I love you, Gin. It’s good to see you. We’ll argue later. Sound good?”

"PHANTOM!” Father growled as he fumingly got to his feet, wiping at his busted mouth. “Release her!”

“Sorry,Dad,” he growled through his chest. “I don’t think I will.”

Rhett

“Thisisallmyfault,” Ginger’s broken voice shook as she sat down in the recliner, pressing a zip-lock bag full of ice against the side of her face. “I never should’ve come back here.” She squeezed her eyes closed, her bottom lip trembling, tears spilling from her eyes. "Fuck. We never should’ve gotten any of you involved in this.”
