“Where were you?”

“Out,” she snipped at me, her nostrils flaring. “Why the fuck do you care?”

My rage flared and beyond my control, I snatched her by the throat as she made to stand up and pulled her close to me, her warm breath raking over my face. Her body shook against mine the harder I squeezed, turning her face red.

“Never. EVER. Do that shit again. Not without telling one of us first. Do you understand?”

Despite her lack of breath, she tightened her eyes enough to form an irritable glare and tried to nod.

I released her and stepped away, hating that I was so angry, that her absence had struck dread down my spine and had me fearing the worst.

“FUCK!”

I kicked the center table and grasped my icy locks, tugging until the pain was barely enough to ease my stress.

“Why are you here, Isaac?” she asked again, rubbing protectively at her throat. “What could you possibly want? Better yet, how the fuck did you—"

“I came here to talk. To apologize. I picked the lock. That’s how I got in.”

Samara indignantly scoffed at me. “Oh, that’s rich. And apologize for what, exactly? Being an asshole?”

I slowly spun on my heel to face her, my chest heaving. “I was going to do it, you know. Take them back to my room. Fuck both of them senseless.”

Her beautiful face crumpled for all of a small moment before she held her head high, steeling herself from all emotion. “Well, good for you. Is that all?”

“Isn’t this what you did with us in the beginning? Played with our hearts?” I wasn’t referring to me directly—I was specifically talking about Rhett and in some ways, Phantom too. I knew everything. I'd witnessed Rhett fucking her in the shed. I knew he was in love with her and how she’d played with his emotions beforehand just to help her succeed with Damien. Phantomadmitted that when he’d taken her hostage, he fucked Samara with her blade and then claimed her as his own. She’d been in bed with all of us.

I wasn’t as jealous as I was angry.

“ANSWER ME!”

“Ye-yes,” she said as she flinched, closing her eyes to compose herself before she opened them. “That is true, Isaac, but it’s…it’s different now.”

“Is it?” I questioned, cocking my head at her. “Tell me something, Samurai. Do you love Rhett?”

Her shoulders fell slack as she gaped at me, her bottom lip wobbling.

“Do you love Phantom?”

I paused, my breath shaking as I struggled to get the next words out.

“Do you… Do you loveme?”

My restraint cracked, and I let her see my vulnerability, hoping she’d understand how important her answer was to me. Rhett was right. I suppose I did love Samara. But it didn’t excuse the fact I had issues. Horrible issues I didn’t know if I could prevail no matter how hard I tried. But when it came to her, my samurai, for the first time ever, I actuallywantedto try. There was something about her that made me want to do right and be a better man. A faithful, committed man.

And that honestly fucking terrified me.

Samara continued to stare up at me with tears in her eyes, a thick droplet slipping out one of the corners. “Yes.”

“Rhett?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

“Phantom?”

My breath caught when she nodded again. “Yes.”

“And me?”
