“You-you’re not mad?” I asked, my brows furrowing with confusion.

“Oh, I’mpissed, but not with you. Jace sent me a text explaining everything. I just wanted to see if you had the balls to lie to me.”

My mouth dropped at her admission. Samara just smiled weakly and waved a hand for me to follow her.

“Come on. We can talk more about it after we’re dressed.”

Finn

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

There it was again. That sound. It echoed through my head day in and day out for weeks now, giving me the most excruciating migraines. And the voices... They called out to me consistently, begging me to come back into the light, which didn’t make sense because I was with Ginger and our twin boys in our new home we’d just bought. I was happy here, and I just wanted to be left alone and for all the noise to stop.

Fuck…

Why wouldn’t they fucking stop!?

“Finn?” my beloved’s sweet voice called out to me, her smile faltering as she walked into our living room and over where I was sitting down in the recliner, with one of our newborns, Jesemy, asleep in my arms. Jeremy was upstairs sleeping safe and sound in his crib. Ginger had just gotten him down for a nap too.

“Are you okay? Is it the migraines again?”

I nodded, hissing under my breath as I gently handed our little prince off in her outstretched arms, gripping my head and leaning back in my seat. “The voices are back, too.”

Ginger blinked at me, nibbling on her bottom lip, a worried look flashing through her bright blues. “Finn… I really think it’s time you go see a—”

“No,” I refused, shaking my head. “I’m not going to see some damn shrink.”

“This has been happening since the boys were born,” she argued through a pained face. “Something is clearly wrong here, Finn. Can’t you see that?”

I raised my hand, silencing her before she could say anything else. “I’m fine, baby. Really, I am.”

“You’re not fine,” she insisted, scoffing at me. “You haven’t left this house or gotten a wink of sleep since I came home from the hospital. That was three weeks ago, babe. It’s no wonder you’re hallucinating—”

“Ginger.” A low growl vibrated through my chest, my dark eyes narrowing. “Let it—”

“Griffin… Baby, it’s mama. Can you hear me?”

“—go,” my voice shook, my chest tightening.

Mom?

I shook my head again, dismissing it completely.

Fuck, I needed a drink.

“Just…” Ginger swallowed, a tear sliding down her cheek. “Just think about it, okay? I’m worried about you, Finn. Whatever’s going on with you, please fix it.Please. I-I love you. I don’t want to lose you.”

She turned away and gently carried our little one up the stairs, leaving me alone with nothing but my sigh meeting the air.

“Griffin,”another voice randomly pounded through my skull.“It’s time to wake up, dear nephew.”

“I am awake,” I seethed through gritted teeth, getting up and stalking over to the center table to grab my bottle, taking a large swig from it. “Leave me alone.”

“Please, baby. Just open your eyes. I’m right here. All you have to do is look at me. Mama’s here, Griffin. Mama’s right here.”
