Lizzie, Staying secluded isn’t going to stop me, and neither is your private security. I’m patient, but I am tired of waiting while you play house with him. You have been putting on this charade for too long, and I am done. We are supposed to be together, and that baby is supposed to be mine. You started this mess, and now I am going to finish it. -Sincerely

Even reading the note for the fifth time, it still has the power to send terrified chills down my spine. This last one is, by far, the worst one yet.Does the psychopath really think that Matthew is his child? Or was that written in there just to throw us off the trail?

Or maybe he wants to trick Ethan into thinking he’s not Matthew’s father.

So many questions and no answers.

Yesterday, Ethan confessed that he had a bodyguard watching us while we were out. I knew someone was guarding the building, but I didn’t know we were going to be followed. I’m almost glad I didn’t know. I probably would have insisted he stay behind. Just imagining what could’ve happened yesterday petrifies me.

The bodyguard had tried to catch the person who dropped the note. However, he was on foot, and the person who dropped the note was on a bicycle. Since the bodyguard couldn’t leave me unattended and unprotected, he was unable to chase the suspect further.

So much for my hope that the stalker had given up.

The only thing that gives me a little peace right now is that we were able to find a nanny. She met with us this evening. As soon as she left the condo after the interview, both Ethan and I agreed she was amazing. He’s going to run a bazillion background checks and call references first. As much as I was against the idea of a nanny, I’m kinda looking forward to the help.

The cook has the night off. Not only did Ethan cook, but he surprised me by making an amazing meal of roasted chicken, fresh green beans with lemon sauce and capers, and homemade bread pudding.

If someone had told me yesterday that Ethan had a domestic side, I’d have told them they were crazy. It was a pleasant surprise.

Right now, he’s in the kitchen, cleaning up our dinner dishes. He’s wearing a cute red-and-white apron and singing to the music playing over the surround sound speakers.

I tried to help, but he demanded that I stay on the couch and not do anything except relax. That’s what I’m trying to do.

My head is leaning on the couch, and my eyes are closed. And thoughts of Ethan are running rampant through my brain.

Thoughts of how he’s keeping us safe, cleaning for us, cooking for us, helping with the baby. I already feel myself getting attached to him. And how could I not?

He’s the complete package. Sweet, smart, domestically inclined. And so freaking hot. Unfortunately, he has one big, glaring flaw. He doesn’t want any form of commitment.

I bet if I hadn’t been around yesterday, he’d have gotten that red-headed server’s phone number. She was definitely willing to give it to him.

“What’s with the frown?” Ethan asks.

I pop my eyes open to see him standing in front of me.

“I’m just thinking about everything.”

“I’ve been thinking a lot, too.” He sits down beside me. “Even with the bodyguard a few feet away, this person was able to get to you. You were so close to being hurt.”

“But I wasn’t hurt.” I wrap my arms around myself. “Can we just not talk about it right now?”

Ethan has a grim look on his face. He’s not going to drop it.

“I’m going to hire a second bodyguard.”

“Do you think that’s necessary? I rarely go out.”

He pins me with an intense look. “I would do anything to protect you and Matthew. Anything. I’ll hire an entire crew if I need to.”

“I know you would.”

He puts his arm around me, and I lay my head against his shoulder. “You’re my baby momma. If anything happens to you, I’ll be forced to take care of this baby on my own.” He shudders against me in mock revulsion, so I pinch him on his side. “Ouch, why’d you do that?”

“You don’t need me. You’d just hire the red-headed server to be your nanny,” I say sarcastically.

Ethan murmurs against my head, “Nah, she doesn’t seem like the type to change dirty diapers.”

“I meant as a nanny for you, not Matthew. I bet she’d happily take care of you.”
