“Yep, got it a few minutes ago, onward and upwards,” he chuckled

“Great, look I’ll give you a call once I know the outcome, thanks Dan.” With that I hang up and head back to the villa.

Dan emails me the next morning with a file full of images. Going through them, I can remove a few immediately, but that still leaves us with 20 faces to ID and check out backgrounds.

Luckily, the security cameras were not badly damaged. Once the fire took hold, you couldn’t see much. But it captured the faces of those who were around that spot about the right time.

Scanning through, I spot an image of a guy who is looking directly at the camera. It unnerves me, like he’s telling me something. I make a note of which one, the guy looks pissed. But there are a few others I feel who are acting suspiciously and add those as well. I need a break, so I call Millie.

“Morning gorgeous, how are you this morning?” She sounds just as tired as I am. I think I’ll take her away after the wedding, to get some time just for us.

“I’m okay, I have to tell you something you won’t like.”

“Straight to the point,” I laugh, resting my head on the back of the sofa.

“Sorry, it’s been playing on my mind, I’ve got to go back to London.”

“What do you mean back to London? Is that where you ran from?”

She takes a deep breath; fear runs through me.Is she going back to him?

“Yes, that’s where I’m from. I put my house up for sale. The weekend we came away and there has been some interest. Charlie has been doing most of the negotiations but I need to go up and sign a few things. So I’m heading up today. I know I should have told you, I’m sorry.”

My blood is boiling with all the anger I feel right now. Clenching my fist, I stand up and start to pace the room.

“What house? The house you lived in with him? That asshole…”

“Yep that very house, it’s mine. Well it was my parents, they left it to me when they died.”

“Are you going alone? Let me send someone with you.”

“Don’t be silly, it won’t take long, I’ll be back tonight.”

“Does he still live there?” I have so many questions I want to ask, but why am I so fucking far away? She must be terrified.

“No, or at least we don’t think so. We had the locks changed the weekend we put it up for sale. I’m sorry I never told you.” I can tell, even over the phone, that she’s chewing on her lip.

“That’s okay, I just wish I could be there, make sure you’re safe”. It’s not okay, but what can I say? I’ll have someone watch out for her, she won’t know.

“You need to be where you are, your businesses need you. Like I said, I won’t be there long. I’m meeting up with Charlie soI won’t be alone.” There’s something in her voice that has me worried, she sounded off.

“Are you sure you’re okay? You sound a little off.”

“I’m fine, I promise. I’ll call you when I get there, and keep you updated.”

“Okay, remember I love you.”

She lets out a giggle down the phone “I know you do.”

She’s still not ready to say it back, I can’t blame her. It won’t stop me telling her though. Well shit, there goes my concentration for today, just another thing to add to the ever-growing list of things I have to worry about.

“It was arson,” I tell the team around me. Bobby and Isaac look shocked, a few of the bar staff, dancers and managers all look like they have no idea, which is reassuring, I suppose.

“Fuck. Who would do that? It’s not just the building, they put lives at risk. People’s jobs.” Dan shouts over the speaker. There are mumbles around the room, the feeling of shock radiates around everyone.

“The ignition point was in the hall like we already knew, but it was started by a mix of chemicals placed with a spark, almost like a detonator, I suppose.” The look on their face says it all, they love this place just as much as I do.

“Dan and Isaac have been looking at footage from the security system. We’ve got some photos of people who were in the vicinity at the time it started, I want to eliminate anyone who is good with you guys.”
