“You’re ridiculous, you know that.” She winks at me again, laughing.

“I’m only telling the truth. Anyway you need to get back to work, and I have plans to make.”

“Well if you’re staying, why don’t you come to the ball on Saturday? Where are you staying?”

“I’m staying here, at the Manor. Even booked myself a spa day for tomorrow.”

“That sounds amazing, I’ll book one for myself when this week is over.” I sigh, standing up and making my way back to the office. Then I realise I won’t be here next week.

“Seven pm. You’re all mine Millie!” she shouts as she heads out the door.

“My poor feet, why do they make heels hurt so much?” Since we arrived at the club, all we have done is dance and dance. It’s been amazing, but my feet feel like they are on fire. I’ve taken my shoes off and I’m never putting them back on. Ever. Charlie laughs at me, linking arms as we head back from the bar withanother cocktail in hand. I’m going to feel like shit tomorrow, it’s already past midnight, and we are still going strong.

When I met Charlie in the pub at seven, we both burst out laughing. We had almost identical outfits on, short black leather skirt, mine a little longer than hers, with a silk cami that cut low in the back and front, only in different colours, and both of us opted for black stilettos. It’s like we planned it. I even offered to go home and change but she insisted we just carry on. So here we are.

“Do you realise how much Owen has been staring at you all night?” I tell her, but she refuses to look in his direction.

“Don’t be silly. He is doing his job, looking out for you.”

“Don’t you like him? I have a feeling he really likes you, you never did tell me what he said to you at lunch. Spill!” nudging her a little.

“Ugh... okay. He said, he knew everything about me, and that Andrew was stupid to ever let me go, and that I would be screaming his name for the rest of my life.” Her face turns red just at the thought of it. That was creepy and sweet and sexy all at the same time.

“I have no words for that…oh yes I do…that’s fucking hot! And maybe a little weird, but mostly hot.”

“It was, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like running. I don’t need a man in my life right now, not serious anyway.” That was fair, she has been through some shit in the last few months. And I have a feeling I don’t even know the full story. After what Andrew had done, I can’t blame her for wanting to be single for a while.

“I understand, but you could also have some fun, it doesn’t have to be serious. When was the last time you had sex?”

“Too long ago for me to remember, and it wasn’t that good.” A sad smile on her face.

“Well tonight will be different, you can have any man you want in this room, pick one and have some fun.”

I scan the room looking for a cute guy, one you know will only want a one-night stand. It’s not hard to miss them, their eyes land on every single girl in the place like they are looking for prey.

“What about him?” I point to a guy over at the bar, tall, dark hair, handsome. “Go and chat him up!”

“What would I even say…do you realise how long it’s been since I chatted someone up? I’ll just make a fool of myself.”

“No you won’t, I’ll walk over with you. All you need to do is be you. Come on, drink up, we need to get another,” I say, placing my empty glass on the table.

As we walk over, the guy glances over his shoulder, looking our way. As we get a little closer, I notice him looking at Charlie, so I move away, letting her walk to the bar while I move to a different spot. Charlie slides in next to him at the bar, and within a few seconds, he is not only chatting her up, but has also bought her a drink. Mission accomplished. I know she won’t sleep with him, but it won’t hurt to feel good for a while.

As I take a sip of my drink, I get an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, like I’m being watched again. I look for Owen and he is still there keeping watch, mainly on me, but with thunderous glances over to Charlie, still talking to Mr Handsome.

Why can’t I shake this feeling? Maybe it’s the drink, and with that, my stomach churns. Placing a hand on my stomach, I glance at Charlie but she is deep in conversation with Mr Handsome. When I stand up, my head spins, and I have to grab the bar to steady myself. I’m going to be sick; holding it down as much as I can, I walk to the bathroom. I don’t want to make a scene, my head is spinning and I can feel a darkness edging in. If I run, I know I’ll fall, and the way my legs are right now, I’m notsure they would support me. Pushing the bathroom door open, I glance around quickly and lock it behind me; the room spins and seems to be tilting to one side. My mind races but all I can do is watch as my body feels heavy and gives way to the floor, blackness flooding my vision.

Banging, that’s all I hear around me.What is that noise? Why is it so dark?My eyes flutter open but I can’t focus. What is that noise? Where am I?When my eyes finally focus I realise I’m still in the bathroom of the club, on the floor. I must have passed out. Bang! What is that noise?Sounds like someone is trying to get in. I still feel sick, I need to get up, but my body has other ideas. I don’t know how long I have been out. I have a feeling that’s Owen trying to get in. My head is so fuzzy, when I eventually stand up, I sway a little, just as the door bursts open and in fly Owen and Leon, looking worried and pissed off at the same time.

“Millie?” Owen shouts, looking round, finding me leaning against the wall for support.

“What’s happened? Are you hurt?” I look at him a little confused, shaking my head at him and instantly regret it as I almost lose my balance again. He grabs my arm and leads me to the sofa by the large mirror.

“Millie, what happened?”

Kneeling down in front of me, I look up and see Leon checking the stalls and blocking the door, glancing over at me.

“I don’t know, I think I drank too much. I must have passed out when I got in here, sorry...I…don’t know, how long?”
