Page 26 of Fierce Obsession

She fixes her lipstick and hair in the mirror carefully, all while I stare at her like she’s an alien. Because she is. She just choked on my dick, but she’s acting like she didn’t. When she’s finished, she tilts her head and waits for me to move aside.

I shift out of her way. I can’t believe her.

She thinks I’msmall?

I just?—

She just?—

She unlocks the door, and the lights flicker out. Without a word, she leaves me alone in the dark bathroom. And I’m left replaying the moment, trying to discern what the fuck just happened.

AURORA

Iround the corner toward what Ithoughtwere the locker rooms, and come to an abrupt halt. Because I clearly just interrupted a conversation I immediately wish I hadn’t.

Two men whispering.

Which probably wouldn’t normally be a problem, since it’s a hallway outside an NHL locker room, and I’ve passed a dozenofficialpeople talking in low tones.

But they stop when they notice me, and shock flickers through me when I realize I recognize one.

Although it takes me a minute to place where I know him.

That night at the club.

Fuck.

The guy with the reddish hair and beard stares at me for a long moment, and I know he’s realizing the same thing.

What’re the odds we run into each other here? During the second intermission of a Titans game?

“Luke—”

The red-haired man waves off his colleague’s words. He motions for me to come closer, and my feet move of their own accord. It’s only when I get within reach that a prickle of fear slides between my shoulder blades.

“I didn’t catch your name last time,” he says to me.

“Aurora.” My voice is faint.

“Aurora…”

“McGovern.”

He nods. “And thanks to my friend here, you know my name is Luke.”

My mouth dries. “Yeah.”

“What are you doing here?” His gaze lifts over my head, then focuses back on me. “There’s security. Did you sneak past them? I think you have a bad habit of doing that.”

I shake my head and raise the badge Joel had given me. It got me past the security guard easily. By that I mean, I’m allowed to be down here. I’m not actually doing anything wrong, except interrupting this conversation.

Luke takes it. He’s dressed formally, in a charcoal-gray suit and blue tie. The guy next to him has a dark-blue polo and slacks on, and a badge similar to mine clipped to his belt. He’s squinting at me, confused, but I don’t really know what to say.

I still have no idea what’s going on.

I was honest with Knox outside the bar last week. Ididbet against the Titans because I wanted to see if my theory was right. And I won a good chunk of money. Even though the Guardians were a playoff team, apparently the odds were skewed in the Titans’ favor.
