Well, nowomanknows the real me.

Minus Melody Cameron—I think she’d get close. She’s one of my best friends nowadays and in love with my other best friend. Jacob Rhodes. They make a cute couple. And I wish like hell Rhodes had decided to join us tonight, but he went home to his woman.

I sigh and stand. The girl on my lap—not sure when she got there—lets out an irritated huff, forced to her feet, and moves out of my way. I pat her ass, grumble something about needing to piss, and follow slowly in Aurora’s wake.

She’s a fucking magnet.

It’s not even a surprise when I push open the door to the women’s bathroom instead of the men’s. She’s at the sink, her head down, the water running. Her hair is pulled over one shoulder, exposing the curve of her pale skin and her pretty, fragile neck.

She doesn’t look up until I’m right behind her.

I wrap one hand around her throat, the other across her mouth. Her back bumps into my chest, and my palm catches her swallow.

And her rapid heartbeat.

Having her this close is almost too much. She smells like lilacs. I can’t remember if that’s how she used to smell. Or if her hair was ever this shiny. Or if her eyes were ever this hateful.

She’s got a splotch of blue in one of her green eyes. Sectoral heterochromia. It was a big deal when we were kids. Some ofthem tried to make fun of her for it—but that ended rather quickly. If there was one thing my brother and I agreed on, it was that Aurora shouldn’t be fucking taunted by bullies.

Now it’s just another thing to separate her eyes from all the rest.

“Hello, sunshine,” I say in her ear.

She shivers.

Delicious.

“I thought I told you to get lost.”

Her lips move against my palm. My traitorous dick twitches. I squeeze her mouth harder, putting my face right next to hers.

“Whatever you were about to say, I suggest you rethink.” It’s a rush being this close to her. A rush that I have to fucking ignore, because this isn’t just some random beautiful girl. “No amount of excuses are going to work on me. You’re engaged to the goalie of the Colorado Titans? What do you think he’s going to do when he realizes you can’t marry him?”

She lets out a noise.

Finally.

She grips my wrists, tugging, but I’ve got more strength. I push her forward, going with her, until her hips are pinned between mine and the sink.

The restroom door opens.

Aurora makes another noise, something between a groan and a plea for help.

I look over my shoulder at the waitress, and I thrust forward. Like I’m fucking Aurora, never mind the long skirt between us. It’s the show that matters.

“Almost done, babe,” I tell the waitress, winking. “You’re next.”

She blushes and backtracks.

As soon as the door closes between us, Aurora elbows me in the gut.

Hard.

I release her, stepping out of range, and smirk.

Her hair is messed up, her lipstick smeared. I make a show of righting myself and let my gaze go from her black boots to the top of her head.

“How long do you think it’ll take for rumors of us to spread to your fiancé?”
