“Get dressed, you too, Princess Elise. Your parents are looking for you as well. I believe you have a fiancé of your own waiting on you as well.” What. The. Fuck.

“Dad, leave us,” I say, my voice deadly quiet.

He sighs and blows out the fire that is taking over the cabin.

“Be at the palace in ten minutes. This ends now.”

He leaves, and I finally pull out of her, even though I don’t want to.

“You have a fiancé?” I ask, my voice still deadly.

“No. I have no idea who he means. My mother told me I needed to marry, but she didn’t specify anyone.”

“You’re mine, Elise. Your virgin blood stains my cock; my mark is on your skin,” I say, tracing my fingers over the ice burn on her arm. “You belong to me. I won’t give you up. I’ll burn down both of our legacies just to have you. Don’t test me on this.”

“I won’t. I’m yours.” She traces her fingers over the mark she left on my skin. The combustibility between us rises again, but I push it down. We don’t have time for this.

“Go ahead and get dressed, Princess. We need to declare ourselves to our families.”

“Fine. I don’t want to leave this place. I don’t want to face reality.”

“We must, but it’ll be so much better when we do.” I lean down and kiss her before letting her up. We dress in silence and walk hand in hand through the woods back to the palace.

Once inside, a footman directs us to the Formal Salon. I am surprised by the number of people in the room. Her fingers tighten around mine. I squeeze her back to reassure her that I am in this forever. Looking around the room, I see my parents, my brothers, and my sister. I see Lavender and her parents. I see Prince Dorian of West Donalton. He must be who Elise’s parents had in mind for her.

“Well, now that we are all here, perhaps someone would like to tell me what the hell is going on in this kingdom.” Elise’s mother is staring at her like the world is ending. I suppose Elise knows what that look means.

“Your majesty,” Elise’s mother says. “May I have a moment with my daughter?” Dad nods his head.

Leaning down, I kiss her cheek. “Everything will be alright, my love. Remember, you are mine,” I whisper into her ear, before kissing the side of her head. Elise leaves the room with her mother, and I’m left to defend us, which is as it should be.

“I know,” she whispers back.

“I regret to inform you all that I cannot marry Princess Lavender. I’m sorry, Lavender, but my heart belongs to another. Princess Elise.”

“That’s unacceptable,” my father thunders. “The contract has been signed by King Payton and me. You will marry Lavender.”

“Then I will abdicate.”

“Let’s not be hasty,” Lavender says.

“You cheated on Lavender?” Rudy shouts before his fist lands in my face. The room erupts in chaos. Rudy keeps coming at me. I get in a few punches of my own.

“You can’t cheat on someone you were never with,” I say as he continues to punch me.

“Father, do something,” Lavender says. “I don’t wish to marry Prince Frost either.”

“The contract states that the Lavender will marry a prince of Wintergreen. No name is specified; any prince will do.”

“Me. It will be me. Lavender is mine,” Rudy says.

“I’m his,” Lavender says, moving to him. She lifts his bruised and bloodied hand to her lips and kisses them.

“Your poor knuckles, my love. I’m so sorry.”

When Elise comes back into the room, she moves right to my side.

“Why do you want to marry my daughter?” King Leyland asks.
