We reached Claire’s house before the girls returned and were in my room making out again when they arrived home a short while later. The look on their faces when they saw me come down to the living room hand in hand with Ash was priceless. Marcie did a double take and exclaimed, “Mr Rominov!”

“Marcie,” he said, nodding his head at her in greeting.

Claire looked shocked before she narrowed her eyes, looked him up and down, then looked at me, “Well, I guess you have something to tell us.”

I swallowed, suddenly unsure where to start. Ash took a step towards her, coming to my rescue.

“Hi, you must be Claire; I have heard a lot about you,” he said, holding his hand out.

Being the up-and-coming lawyer she was, she took it and shook it firmly while looking him in the eye, then stepped back to appraise him from a distance.

“How do you know our Gracie then?” she asked.

“We met at the event Marcie’s company ran for us at my family’s new club, and we kept bumping into each other, then we had our first date last Friday night,” he told her, smiling charmingly.

Smoothly done, I bit back a smile.

“Oh, so I brought the two of you together, you could say!” Marcie exclaimed, delighted, clapping her hands excitedly.

I laughed. I guessed Marcie did.

“About time you got laid, girl!” she nudged me and winked.

“Oh my god, you did not just say that in front of Ash,” I stated, totally embarrassed.

He just laughed and hugged me and told her she no longer had to worry about me having any problems with that. Marcie squealed in delight, and Claire frowned disapprovingly. Oh my god! I needed the floor to open up and swallow me.

“Yeh!” Marcie clapped again. “I can’t believe that while we were away, you got yourself a rich and handsome boyfriend!” she squealed.

Claire’s lips were pursed, and her eyes were narrowed again. She was looking at us like she was assessing the situation and finding it wanting. I could tell she was desperately struggling not to bombard Ash with questions.

“So, what have you guys got planned for tonight then?” she simply asked in the end.

“We are planning a quiet night in,” I told her. “You?”

“Same,” Marcie said.

Claire was looking between us both with a frown on her face and a look in her eyes, which told me she was trying to decide if what was happening here was a good thing or not. I smiled brightly at her, hoping she would decide it was the latter.

She never said anything, and I was relieved when they left to take their bags upstairs.

I could hear Marcie gibbering excitedly all the way.

“So far so good. Claire’s obviously cautious of me, but she hasn’t tried to kill me, so that’s good,” he whispered, chuckling.

“Cautious! Did you see the way she was looking at you?”

“She is a bit terrifying!” he grimaced, and I laughed because, well, she was.

I frowned and bit my bottom lip. I was worried. Claire was the only real family I had left, and I really needed her and Ash to like one another.

He smiled.

“It’ll be fine!” he stated with such confidence that I couldn’t help but believe him.

He took me into his arms and kissed me gently on the lips.

It soon developed into something much deeper and continued to get even more heated until we were interrupted by giggles. I jumped back from Ash, my face heating as I saw both Marcie and Claire standing in the doorway watching us.
