“Yeah, but you should like, sell it. Like at a store. This stuff is damn good. Everyone needs to experience the Beck cheese.”

Beck blushes a little and peers up at Ryan. “It’s more of a hobby right now.”

“Well, it should be more than that, dude,” Ryan says and then pulls out a chunk of salami and takes a bite out of that too.

I can’t look anymore. It’s making my stomach upset.

I push off the bed of the truck, grab a beer, and walk toward Hayes who is sitting in a folding chair, staring up at the sky. He’s wearing his uniform, the top unbuttoned and his belt buckle undone. He looks casual and relaxed.

“Couldn’t stand watching Ryan eat the salami?” he asks with a laugh, and I lower myself into a chair next to him. The fabric creaks and groans under my weight.

“Yeah, it was a little much.”

He grunts a laugh. “Beck seems to enjoy it.”

I glance back at them and see Beck leaning a little too close to Ryan, if you ask me.

“Yeah, wonder if he got a whiff of one of his farts yet. That will put him off Ryan for ages.”

Hayes laughs loudly and then takes a swig of his beer. “Who fucking knows? Your stepbrother is a fucking riot.”

“Yeah, he is.”

“Speaking of, is your grandpa going to join us? I thought you said you were gonna invite him.”

“I did, but he wasn’t in the mood. Was a bit grumpy. Said he didn’t feel like hanging out with us tonight and thinking about how close to death he is.”

“Jesus. I’ll never get used to his humor.”

“Yeah, I know. It’s dark sometimes.”

“Not sometimes, most of the time.”

I smile at that, and then Hayes asks, “How are those little mini pigs? Saw your dad the other day, and he said that you got a few more.”

“Yeah, he can’t stop buying them. They’re too damn cute.”

“They sure are. Must be a hit with the ladies.” I glance over at Hayes, and he smirks at me. “Or the guys. Mini pigs are for everyone. Unisex.”

I stare forward, not responding. It’s not really a secret that I’m into men. Hell, I have been since I can remember, but I don’t announce it either. I don’t want the stares and the comments from everyone. It seems a little much at times. I haven’t even told my parents yet. I’m sure they already know though, so why say it?

Don’t really feel like it, to be honest. It’s not really anyone’s business anyway.

But maybe if I find someone I really like, I’ll tell them all. Hell, I bet I’d even take an ad out in the paper. Make it real official.

“Yeah, exactly,” I say, and then Hayes slugs my arm.

“Nothing wrong with that. Hell, I like to look as much as the next person.”

I arch an eyebrow at him, about to ask what the hell that means, when lights flash from headlights behind us. I turn around and see an old car chugging up the dirt path. It comes to a stop and idles there for a while.

“Think they’re here to kill us?” Ryan says loudly, hopping off the bed of the truck and stalking toward the car. He knocks on the window and peers inside, then he turns to us and laughs.

“It’s the guy who is into Jimbob. Maybe he’s here for a kiss.”

I feel my cheeks heat and stand up, walking toward the car. It shuts off and Braxton steps out. His hood is over his head, and he immediately folds his arms across his chest.

“Hey,” I say with a smile. “Ignore Ryan. He’s an idiot.”
