Hawk was hiding something from me, and I had a feeling my mother and Noni were in on it. I’d tried, but I couldn't get a straight answer out of any of them. I can’t lie – it was pissing me off, not knowing what was going on. I was so used to everyone always telling me everything that not knowing something was grinding on my last nerve. If it wasn’t for the fact that I knew my family wouldn’t do anything to hurt me, I may have been worried about all the secrecy.
I walked into the clubhouse for our weekly business meeting, and the women were all sitting or standing around the bar waiting. They immediately all stopped talking as soon as I walked in.
Standing in the doorway, my hands on my hips and my eyes narrowed to slits as I looked at them. It wasn’t long before Noni started to squirm. My eyes narrowed further when I saw Mum grab hold of Noni’s hand, whispering, “Stay strong.”
I’d wanted to laugh at the comment because if anyone was going to crack it would be Noni. We didn’t keep anything from each other. Ever!
I would have stood there for as long as it took for her to break, but my arsehole brother had shouted out, breaking our staring contest.
“Close the bloody door, Avs, it’s fucking freezing.”
Turning my glare to him, I saw he was grinning. I knew then the whole MC was in on whatever was going on. He would know that Noni would struggle to hold out on me which is probably why I’d not been able to get her on her own the last week.
Muttering under my breath about interfering brothers, I turned to close the door only to find Hawk in the doorway, reaching for me. Sweeping me up in his arms, he laid a hot and heavy kiss on my lips, then kicked the door shut behind him.
My irritation was forgotten once his arms surrounded me and his lips were on mine. My entire body relaxed as his familiar scent surrounded me. Breaking our kiss at the hoots and catcalls coming from the peanut gallery behind us, I squealed and laughed as he buried his freezing cold face in my neck, pressing his lips just behind my ear.
“Hi, Sweets, why are you glaring at Noni?”
“Because you’re all keeping secrets from me and I don’t like it,” I pouted at him. “Are you going to tell me what’s going on? I promise to reward you.”
He grinned at my attempt at bribery. “Nope, it’s a surprise, one I hope you’ll love. I’ll be giving you the first part of it tonight.”
I huffed out an irritated breath and my hands were back on my hips as I glared at him, “Hawk, telling me we’re going to have sex tonight is not a surprise.”
My voice must have been louder than I intended it because there were bursts of laughter from behind me along with groans from what I assumed was my dad and Reaper. My man, on the otherhand, was nearly bent over double with laughter. I glared at him until he stood up, wiping a hand under his eyes, his face alight with mirth. “I wasn’t talking about sex, Sweets, although it’s nice to know I’m getting lucky tonight.” There was another loud groan from behind me. Turning my head, I looked over my shoulder to see my dad with his head in his hands shaking his head and Reaper looking a little green at Hawk’s words.
I just shook my head and rolled my eyes at them in disgust. I mean, what did they think we did in my wing every night? Play canasta!
“Hawk, son, I don’t need to hear what you do to my baby girl. As far as I’m concerned, she’s pure as the driven snow.”
Noni let out a loud snort and started laughing at Dad’s comment which set the rest of the women off.
I shot them a finger over my shoulder and turned my gaze back to my man who was still looking way too amused for my liking.
“Well, what is it?” I demanded.
“Patience, Sweets, you’ll see soon; it’s not time yet. I’ll tell you after the meeting.”
“Fine,” I grumbled at him, “but I’m not waiting for more than a minute after the meeting.”
He smirked at me but agreed, “I promise you’ll know right after the meeting.”
Just then Reaper let out a piercing whistle to get us all up and moving into Church before he walked to the door where we kept all the computers and monitoring equipment.
Last year, Dragon had had Julia’s brother build it as there was sometimes sensitive information showing on the screens. It was mostly Skinny’s domain, but we’d all had a turn on them whenhe got hurt from the fire that had burnt down a barn at Molly’s place.
It wasn’t my favourite job, I’d found it boring, and I’d especially not liked learning about all the places the couples in this club had sex in. I could have done with never seeing that ever again.
Skinny walked out with his dog Cinder at his side. The only time she ever left it was when she played with Ellie and Mila. Otherwise, as far as she was concerned Skinny was her human, and she wasn’t keen on sharing him, either. She’d made that clear when a woman at the park in December hadn’t taken no for an answer. We’d taken the kids for a walk through the Christmas lights the council had set up in the park. A woman had come up and started flirting, we could all see that Skinny wasn’t interested but he’d been too polite to say anything, then she’d made the fatal error of touching him, the growl from Cinder had her squealing like she’d been attacked but as she’d had her working dog vest on nothing had happened other than the woman had been cautioned about approaching people that had working animals.
The way she’d huffed and flung her hair over her shoulders before stomping away in her high-heeled boots towards her friends, only to slip on a patch of ice, had had us chuckling in amusement. She’d been caught by Cally, who’d helped her until she was steady. The woman had pulled her arm from Cally and continued to stomp away without a thank you.
“Wow,” Cally said, shaking her head in disbelief as her gaze followed the woman before she’d turned back to us, “Rude, huh. Dodged a bullet there, Skinny.”
This had caused another bout of hilarity from our group. It had ended up being a great evening, and we’d not had any further issues. It hadn’t really come as a surprise to us that as we wereleaving, we found the same woman in an argument with another woman and being shouted at for hitting on her man.
