Just as the car pulls off, I hear a loud screeching of tires. Instinctively I dive over Taylor dragging her to the floor of the Rolls Royce.

“Go, Go, Go,”I shout to the driver just as a hail of bullets lights up the car.

“You drive,”Monster shouts.“He’s in on it.”

Not once in the thirty years have I ever doubted my guardian as Tay-chan loves to call him. Kogi has been my driver for years.

“Anyone can be gotten to,”Heassures me. “You must protect your wife.”

Arguing no further. I move.

“Get the fuck over and if you move, I will kill you,” I snarl to the trembling man.

Training my ass. He may have pissed himself. Taking the wheel I drive over the curb, driving into oncoming traffic, with precision I find the spaces to take my car between the cars racing toward me. Keeping calm, I make a U-turn crossing the divider so that I’m now going in the right direction.

The assailants have been long since left behind. I see Taylor trying to sit up.

“Stay down, little dove.” My words bely the adrenaline pumping through my veins as I take safety maneuvers drilled into me for years until I arrive safely at my penthouse at Toranomon Hills Towers.

“We own this building. No one on staff can come and go without our express knowledge,” I say to Taylor even as I type in and send for lockdown procedures as we ride up the elevator to our floor. Aiko and Hiru stand at the ready as soon as we enter.

“Take care of your mistress,” I say to them before turning her to me.

“Listen go take a shower. I will be back in a little bit.”

She’s already shaking her head.

I stop her when my phone chimes making her fume but in this case, it can’t be helped.

“Cousin,” I say as soon as I see the other person on the phone is Akchiro, who holds the positions as The Takeda, the head of our family and our vast business interest including a multibillion-dollar conglomerate.

“What the fuck is going on?” he snarls in the background.

“That’s what I’m wondering,” I tell him. “I was at the theater with my wife and someone tried to kill us in the most dishonorable way. With guns.”

Hearing the disgust in my voice he sighs. “I’d have thought he’d have been appeased but it seems Tatsumoto is still miffed your brother chose another over his sister.”

“You mean she chose her female assistant over Kiyoshi. It seems like a win for everyone,” I say, reminding him of that little missed gem.

“He could have still had them. Had them both if he so chose you know that.”

“I believe he loves his little chef,” I throw the winning salvo because didn’t my cousin also choose love.

“You will take care of this for me. Try to resolve it without bloodshed if possible since we have many mutual business interests. However, you will do what you must to stay alive. It would upset my wife and I don’t want to see her more upset than she already is,” he grumbles with the resignation of a married man. I suppose she’s giving him fits after discovering he’s kept my mother and sister captive in his mansion in Osaka for the last few years.

Seconds later — Tsuyoshi Tatsumoto’s location is sent to my phone. Heading toward the elevator I pause when a small delicate hand grips my arm. Pivoting I turn catching her waist looking at the lovely lilac petal rose couture dress she’s wearing.

“Tay-chan,” I begin.

“Hi—” she cuts in.

Shaking my head, I silence her pulling her close. “You are making me give face in front of others, little dove,” I growl, frustration lacing my words making them come out as a growl.

“S-sorry. I will gladly give you mine. I was so scared.” I can feel her trembling. I watch her with my heart swelling, and shebows before me before coming back clutching the lapel of my suit pressing her face into my chest. “Please just stay here.”

“The head of my family gave me a task. It would be a great dishonor. It would require my life if I fail his order,” I tell her with cold finality making it more than clear what the expectations are.

“Going could cause that.” Her eyes are wild with worry.
