“I whole-heartedly believe that, especially after talking to Mom.” Adora raised her glass in a silent toast. "To my nephling,” she began.
“What’s a nephling?” I interjected.
“Well, I don’t know what’s in there. Niece? Nephew? They’re a youngling, so I’m going with a nephling,” she said with a shrug.
Danni and I both laughed. “Only you, sister.”
Adora flicked a strand of her hair away from her face, and lifted a shoulder slightly while smiling, her way of saying “of course.”
I raised my glass. “To the unpredictable journey ahead. May it be filled with more joy than chaos."
“And to our loved ones,” Danni added, and Nova nuzzled against the side of her leg. “Our village to share in both the joy and the chaos.”
Glasses clinked and a profound sense of gratitude enveloped me.
We did have a village. Some of them were related by blood, and others were chosen. Regardless of who they were or where they were from, we were all family.
