“The pleasure is ours.” He kissed my hand, and I smiled awkwardly. I never knew what to do when he did that. He was the definition of odd though. I was glad his greetings never caught on.

“Where would you all like us to begin? I would like to first place the Felician spell of Lure.”

“I haven’t heard of it,” I said.

Maddox walked up beside me. “It’s a Felix original. Isn’t that right, old friend?”

“Yes, it is.” Felix’s cheeks balled.

Maddox pointed at the gargoyle statues. “Start there and go all the way back to the tree line at the back of the grounds and between those hedges. In fact, I’ll walk you.” Maddox glanced at me before leaving to escort Felix. “I thought you messaged saying Viktor was back.”

“He is.” I gulped. “He’s coming. He went to his room.”

“You took over an hour to search the gardens.” He didn’t look convinced.

My stomach swirled. “He found some hidden corner and was reading.”

“Reading?”

“Yes. One of the history books you showed him.”

A smile crept on his face. “Good, well, I will be back then.”

“See you.”

I waved Naomi over once Maddox and Felix were gone. “Thanks for coming.”

She beamed. “Always.”

“You look so professional in your robes.”

She twirled them around herself. The red complemented her honey-brown eyes and black curls. “They’re new. The coven kind of rebranded. Felix’s idea.”

I laughed. “I bet.”

She giggled. “Where’s Viktor?”

“Getting dressed.”

She raised her eyebrows, and I rolled my eyes. “Not like that. He got dirty in the garden.”

She held her spell book to her chest, looking up as if lost in a dream. “I’m sure he did.”

I hit her arm lightly. “Stop.”

“How’s the spell coming along with the caster?”

I shrugged. “It’s not. They stopped it once Edmund and Dora left, due to security measures.”

“So no one can come in?”

“Nope. Once you’re done here, I won’t be able to see you for however long.”

“No.”

“Yes. It sucks.”

Her frown tugged at the corners until she grinned.
